Traffic Stop Nets $55 Grand Near Barriere

Barriere, B.C. -  For the second time in a little over a week,  a traffic stop near Barriere, has resulted in the seizure of drugs and cash.

Just after midnight on January 14 a member of Southeast District Traffic Services seized an estimated $55,000 after a vehicle stop on Highway 5.
 
The vehicle was being driven in a manner that the officer felt the driver could be impaired.  During the interaction with the driver, he noted a number of indicators that lead him into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. A police service specialty narcotic dog was deployed on the vehicle and the dog provided a positive indication for drugs.
 
The subjects were arrested and the vehicle was searched incidental to arrest.
 
Approximately $55,000 in Canadian currency was located.
 
The male provided a false name to police, he faces charges of proceeds of crime, obstruction and impersonation.
 
A 46-year old Saskatchewan male is being held for court on Monday.
 
A 35-year old Saskatchewan female is being charged with proceeds of crime and obstruction and has been released on a $10,000 bail and conditions.
 
Just a week before, a routine road check on highway 5  near Barriere netted  about $20 thousand in cash , and some drugs.
In that case, the  driver, from Edmonton Alberta, has been charged with Possession of Property obtained by Crime. The cash could also be forfeited.

Me thinks perhaps the Barrier RCMP have a little birdy telling them who or what to watch for. Works for me, way to go guys!
They don't have police service specialty narcotic dogsjust lying around for their convenience.
Maybe the guy caught with the $55 thousand bucks should have stopped at the first BC casino and changed all that dough into a cheque. Know what I'm sayin'?
