Prince George, B.C. - Further details have been released regarding the motor vehicle collision near Chetwynd that closed Highway 97 to single-lane alternating traffic overnight...
RCMP say one person was killed in the head-on collision involving two pick-up trucks that occurred on Highway 97, approximately 30-kilometres south of Chetwynd.
Police say poor weather conditions and icy roads are considered to be factors in the crash that occurred at approximately 6pm, near Hasler Flats. RCMP say it appears one pick-up truck lost control and began to fishtail, crossing the centre line and striking an oncoming vehicle.
The male driver, and lone occupant, of the truck that lost control was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
The RCMP investigation continues.
Meantime, there are still no details to report about a vehicle incident that has closed Highway 16-East, near Mount Robson Provincial Park. Both lanes have been closed since just before 1:30am this morning. The route is expected to re-open to single-lane alternating traffic this hour. A call has been placed to Valemount RCMP for further details.
DriveBC is reporting compact snow with slippery sections on both Highways 16 and 97 and there are a number of areas where visibility is reported to be limited due to blowing snow.
A number of travel advisories remain in effect on Highway 16-West in the Smithers and Terrace areas, where motorists are being advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
