Two shorthanded goals for the Chilliwack Bruins proved to be the difference in a 3-1 victory at CN Centre over the Prince George Cougars Saturday.

The Cougars and Bruins were meeting for the third consecutive game, with the Cougars coming off a 7-3 win Friday at home over the Bruins.  Ty Rimmer, who earned the victory Friday, was back in goal Saturday facing Lucas Gore, who lasted a period the night before in the Bruins goal.  The Bruins would get on the board first, when Ryan Howse took a fortunate hop off the end boards and beat Rimmer on the glove side for a short handed marker and a 1-0 Bruins lead.  The Cougars out-shot the Bruins 14-10 in the first period, with both goalies coming up with dazzling saves in the final half of the period.

Chilliwack scored the only goal of the second period when the Cougars turned the puck over and Mike Forsythe fired a shot home to put the Bruins up 2-0.  That's the way it stood after 40 minutes, with the Cougars out-shooting the Bruins 11-9.

The Cougars got what they needed in the third; a fast start.  Martin Marincin was fed in front of the goal and missed the net on his first shot, but buried his second attempt high over Gore just 27 seconds into the period for his 11th goal of the year.  Brock Hirsche and Taylor Makin drew helpers on the goal that cut the lead in half to 2-1 Chilliwack.  But the Bruins iced the game with a shorthanded goal from Roman Horak at 9:38, going in on a breakaway to finish the scoring in a 3-1 Chilliwack win.  The Cougars out-shot the Bruins 22-7 in the third for a 47-26 margin in the game, but Gore made 46 saves for the win.  The Cougars were 0-for-6 on the power play and the Bruins were 0-for-4.  The Cougars were 19-for-19 on the penalty kill agianst the Bruins in their three game set.

The Cougars, who are now 22-19-2-1, head on the road for three games next week, starting with the Kelowna Rockets Wednesday.  The Cougars will also hit Vancouver Friday and face the Bruins next Saturday in Chilliwack.  The Cougars return home for a date with the Kamloops Blazers on Wednesday, January 26, starting at 7:00pm at CN Centre.  Tickets are available by calling Ticketmaster at 250-564-5585.
