Prince George, B.C.- Another 5-10 centimetres  of snow  could accumulate in Prince George before the current system moves out of the region later this afternoon.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Jim Steele says the average snowfall for January is 55.8 cm, and Prince George has already had just over 60 cm.

To make this weather system worse, he says there are some “bright bands” in the weather radar to the west and southwest of the city and that means we are likely in for some freezing rain.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, the record snowfall for a January in Prince George, was in 1982, when the City was hit with 174.7 centimetres of snow for the month. So, look out your window, and nearly triple the amount of snow  you can see.

I remember the snow of 1982. Seems to me that I couldnt look out my window because of the snow. The mailmen were carrying those orange flags, which was all you could see when they were coming up your walkway.
I recall the Terrace-Kitimat area in 1999, there was a snowfall of over 120 cm. in half a day.
I also remember the snow of 1982 and I remember the streets were cleared and driveable. the city crews are not doing their job and the excuses keep pileing up just like the snow.the streets are so rough it will be amazing if half the motorist don't have to replace tierods, stuts shocks or other parts that are going to break on our vehicles.Garbage routes are a priority'come on main streets are a priority, like 15th,10th,5th,Victoria,Downtown core,Queensway etc. not the hood especially Pine street where some of the crew and freinds live or the Hart all the time.
Our residential street got plowed yesterday for the first time in a week plus. If they had not done that, with the wet snow of last night, we would not have been able to get through with a standard sedan type of car because of the low clearance such a car has compared to SUVs and trucks.

I am not sure why so many people talk about tires. With snow as deep as it is allowed to pile up on city streets here, the issue goes far beyond tires. Sedans are not designed to plow snow in front of them especially when it starts to get heavy, water laden snow.

One can't expect an entire population to drive such large vehicles. Maybe we should all get together and start driving snowmobiles.
How many inmates are up at PGRCC? We are paying for them anyway, I am sure we could come up with a truckload of shovels. Send them out to the driveways of the sick and elderly. I'll even donate a shovel, where should I stick it?
9:18? Better late than never....
My son just emailed me from Duchess Park school. His #12 special city bus from College Heights arrived at Domano/McGill 5 minutes before the school bell rings, so needless to say the entire load of kids were seriously late by the time they all got to the school. He wanted to warn me to stay home because the roads were unreal.

Why are the bus routes not being done in the very early morning, so the buses can actually get to where they have to? The governments want us to use transit, but it is a problem when it is not reliable. Employees face being docked wages if they are late.

I don't mind having the residential streets cleared later (it only makes sense, but the main roads and key routes are still being done too slowly.
Maybe they all need to vote in another 22% wage increase,
Rogers enjoy it we won’t be voting for you again.
Rogers dream of becoming mayor came true; the dream will be ending after one term. Fooled me into voting for him.
I well remember the snowfalls of 82 and if memory continues to serve me, 5th, 10th and 15th were kept in better shape back then even with triple the amount of snow. Anyone else remember the same thing? I do remember shoveling myself out of my driveway in the morning to get to work and having to shovel myself back in at night. Good times.
Although I do not think Dan Roger's has done a very good job as mayor, and I probably will not vote for him in the election coming up in November,to say that at this time would be difficult,as we don't know if he is running again,we don't know if anyone is running against him,and if someone is running against Dan Roger's,what if the person is say,Joey Arrance, who will you vote for then.Just things to consider before making a voting decision.
Arrance. At least he understands business :)
I think that under the circumstances, logistcaly, the city is doing a pretty good job. However on Highland Dr.,things are very unusual this year. The city is plowing the roads in a totally different way. There are blind spots and large piles of snow everywhere on traditionally (20 years I`ve been here)what has been serviced at a top notch level.
When questioning city hall about this new approach, they said an individual on this road was complaining that they were getting more snow in their yard than their neighbours, and a different strategy was being used. They also said it was costing more money to do it this way.
I wonder how one individual can influence city policy this way?Is this individual a persistant whiner?,and why would one want to jeoporadize the safety of so many just to see the grass sooner in the spring.
Perhaps this person of "fairness" should be out on the snow filled sidewalk helping the senior that fell trying to get to the bus at the bus stop,or the young mother trying to drag her baby buggy through a 3 foot snow berm.I hope to see you out there, and i`m sure city hall will get sick of all the phone calls and come to their senses.....but that`s just MY OPINION!
IMO the plows are doing the best they can. We just had a lot of snow dump on us. I would like to wake up in the morning as much as the next guy and have every street plowed. Not going to happen. In reality we could have quicker plow times, but that would cost more money and then people would complain about the cost.
There is never any way you can make everyone happy. To eveyone that is complaining you have a few options:
1. Stay home - if you're that scared and worried about the roads don't drive on them.
2. Move somewhere else - there are plenty of places that don't get the amount of snow we do.
3. Accept this is part of life and you can not always get your way.
4. Buy a giant truck so it doesn't matter if there is 10 feet of snow out there.
5. Complain to everyone that will listen

Many people chose number 5....
its just snow,thats all
I have NEVER seen such a mess as there is this year.....it is very dangerous on the roads right now...it it not safe walking...I almost got hit today by a person who hit a huge hole and slid, almost in to me and a child. Not good !
I was all over town today. (bowl area) I saw one grader with the blade up going down Patricia. I saw another grader at 15th and Foothills along with a loader. I didn't get close enough to see if they were actually working. That's it for snow removal in the bowl area today. it will all melt in the spring.
It is extremely easy to maintain snow removal. Do the bulk of your removal when the least amount orf vehicles are on the road. Have 2 night shift crews working 4 on 4 off every day from Nov 1 to March 30th. No overtime exept on stats, and a third smaller crew on days so people can see some equipment. When you wake up in the morning most streets are clean or at least safe. You would more than cover the costs of on what is saved on overtime!
