Prince George, B.C.- CN workers could be on the picket line when the clock ticks past midnight (EST) into Tuesday, January 25th.

The Canadian Auto Workers Union, representing  nearly 4,000 CN mechanics, clerical workers, excavator operators, and truck drivers, has served strike notice.

CN maintains it can reach an agreement before the strike deadline, but adds it has a  plan in place,  just in case.

The workers have been without a contract since the end of December and have been in negotiations since September of 2010.

The Union says workers are not prepared to accept contract concessions , especially since they believe  the industry has seem economic recovery in the past few months.

CN will release it’s 4th quarter results on the 25th.

I heard things are pretty bad. Loaded trains sitting on sidings, no engines to pull them. Time to get CN back on the rails and get over themselves. Too bad they are the only option for our entire resources sector. Would love to have another choice. Wonder what all of their customers think? I suspect they have lots to say.
You heard wrong.
I sure hope this strike is not about wages. If it is, I say "get your heads out of the sand and look at the wages that most people live with".
I can assure you its not about wages, this i know.
I for one think those workers deserve more money then they make...I work out at the pulp mills and see those workers out there in the snow..rain..wind..-30 weather all day long...with CN being the only game they can afford to pay their foot soldiers more and cut back on the higher salaries of all their supervisor....
My comments are directed at the management of the railway and in no way implicate the workers on the job. I don't know what their issues are, except frustration with their employer.
forthegoodofmankind it is people like you that make it easy for employers to shaft there workers.People shouldn't be living with the wages they have right now why these big businesses pocket huge profits.Maybe you should get your head out of the sand
redneck, spoken like a true union man. I don't advocate for employers who "shaft" their employers. There are a lot of good business people out there who pay fair wages for the work done. "Big business" CN certainly pays their employees well while it "pockets huge profits". Where's the problem with that?! I am just saying that CN employees are well paid and the strike shouldn't be about a wage increase. If the strike is about working conditions eg. weather, hours, etc. then I have no problem with striking.
