And there we have the rest of the story...
So sad man, but bell and bond are just doing what they believe gives them the best chance to survive. I firmly think if falcon wins their leadership race, the ndp (gasp) might win one finally!
Meet the new boss......Same as the old boss. Or worse?
Definitely worse. "My way or the highway" character.
You do have to wonder why they would align themselves with the most disliked candidate, who insipte of what they would have us believe, will not win the leadership OR an election.
Unless of course, there is more going on in the backroom than we know?
Mind you...they ARE Campbell Liberals...
It would be interesting to know what they were promised by Falcon, if he should win?
You can bet they were promised something!
They were promised a tough, likely unwinable fight if Falcon wins, for the next election.
That's about all I can see for them gus.
We need to be aware that this is the B.C. Liberals and they will use every trick in the book.
They are not above scamming the voters to win the next election.
Losing is not an option for them, which makes them very dangerous.
We would be wiser and safer in the long run to expect that from them.
Glade they chose that snake. Bye bye liberals
I have to wonder if Bond and Bell bothered to even ask their constituents who they supported?
Seems not, which only tells us who this is really all about...and it ain't us!
Falcon does not have the support of as many voters here in the north as he would have us think, other than businesses.
From what what I am hearing, those that are leaning towards the Liberals again, are favouring Abbott.
Problem is,there doesn't seem to be all that many of them.
We will see that clearer when we approach the election in 2013.
I think Bond and Bell just shot themselves in the foot by not aligning with the favoured candidate...and that's not Falcon.
Premier Falcon has a nice ring to it.
Fal-CON
I agree with you Andyfreeze.

I wonder if there is any information anywhere on the web that keeps count on who is in whose "camp".

All I know is that Gordon Campbell had to step down for a reason. Kevin Falcon does not understand that, so he is just the same olde, same olde.

Abbott, on the other hand, seems to get it better than any of the others, other than Clark, perhaps. But she has her own baggage.

I do not know what it is about this leader business. I mean, as an MLA, especially as Cabinet Ministers, I quite frankly expect people to be self starters. That is the first characteristic that is expected of anyone working in any organization today if they are to excel at what they do.

Then there is the leader from the people's point of view. Initially that is the people who are actually members of the party since it is the entire membership that can vote. The MLA's just have one vote each, no different from any other member. This is not about selecting a leader for a company by a search committee. This is all about selecting a leader of an organization that has a large membership that gets to select the leader.

On top of that, the "directors" of the province are going to eventually be selected by the voters in the province. So the BCLiberals, as well as the other parties in BC, are all special interest groups that want their people to form government.

So, my point of view is that MLAs ought be self starters, they should take their direction from the constituents they are serving, and they should let the members of the party make their selection and then the voters in the province at the general election.

I think we live in a different era. Communications is quick and open. There is a new paradigm at play and those who do not adjust will eventually drop by the wayside.
Come on you people sound like N.D.P supporters all the way. To bad actually.
Bang on gus!
I am looking....
chrislivingdowntown . .....

Why would I be concerned that the BCLiberals have the kind of person at the head of the party who can beat the NDP again if I were an NDP supporter? That makes no sense.

This is first a party member issue. For party members, in my opinion, the key should be to determine which of the people who put their name forward will be able to get the most votes for BCLiberal candidates across the province in 2013, or whenever the next election is, in order to form government.

In order to do that, the individual has to not only appear different than Campbell, but has to BE different than Campbell. That person has to put democracy back into the system.

Falcon has not shown that he can do that. There are too many people that get that same impression.

This is an internal party debate which is being held in public. It is a healthy debate, in my view, and ought to have happened a long time ago, but in reality, the party is not set up to do that. They are dealing with something they are not used to dealing with.

There is a nice term for it. Luckily we have two parties who suffer from the same disease. It is very simple. They have not done any succession planning.
Bad news for the north... Falcon may be able to win over the Gordon Campbell loyalists, but he has no chance at winning a general election. The die is cast, our local MLA's have crossed the Rubicon.

I think Abbott is the best of the list of candidates so far... he at least seems to recognize the problems of the liberal past and the issue of the Basi/Virk scandal... he's still a BC liberal though, but likely the most moderate of the bunch. I think he will win and if he does, I'm not sure PG will have a minister in government anymore.
Bad news for the north?? He is by far the best Liberal candidate for the north. Eagle, Gus and |Andy, ...blah,blah
So he is the be the best candidate for the North.

What good is that if he can't win a provincial election? If he does not lead the BCLiberals to a victory in a provincial election he'll be yacking from across the floor at an NDP government which has no credible person in the wings to take Pat and Shirley's place. So, you can kiss the North goodbye.

In other Falcon will not be able to deliver. So he can talk all he wants.

So, dow7500, you must be supporting the NDP .... or you are a lousy strategist.
I used to like Bell....but he's backing a dead horse in this race.

Bye bye Libs....
What a great choice ~
That bird, or a monk.
To bring back to favour,
What HST's sunk.

Yes, the Libs will soon choose,
And THEY'LL have the last word.
In such matters as this,
WE won't ever be heard.

Ah, just as well.
Let's stay safe in the dark,
We'd have even worse,
If they chose Christy Clark.

It still matters not,
Who is finally annointed,
Chances are great,
We'll remain disappointed.

For what can be done,
In the time that remains,
To save any group,
With so little brains?

From certain extiction,
When OUR votes are cast,
And who was once first,
Now comes in last?

How did it happen?
What went so far wrong?
What turned voters away.
From hearing our song?

How will we hold on,
To the power we crave?
And stave off our descent,
To a political grave?

Be more HONEST? They ask.
Should we give THAT a try?
Hell, NO ! ~ we're STILL Liberals!
We'd rather die!
It won't matter anyway...Falcon isn't going to win the leadership race.
The Liberal rank and file members who will be doing the voting are not that stupid.
They know how unpopular Falcon is,and they also know their ultimate goal is to win the next election.
With Falcon, that is NOT going to happe.
But,I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Boy, they sure had me on pins and needles waitng for their approval. Whew!

Chances are better for old whatsername. If Campbell is behind her, she will have enough money to win. Money is the deciding factor these days. I would be very surprised if she didn't win.
Bond and Bell don't make up the party vote. They are only two people and I will cancel one of their votes. I'm not a Liberal but I aleays join the party in power regardless of my preference. It is the only real way to have a voice. There is no profit in joining the opposition, especially when there is a mojority in the Legislature.
Shuswap MLA George Abbott added his 17th endorsement from sitting MLAs Monday, as West Vancouver-Capilano MLA Ralph Sultan joined his team. Falcon's total stands at 15 current MLAs.(Surrey News)

That is downright sad. I really thought they would go with Abbott who I believe has a lot more credibility than Falcon. Falcon wins, we're in the same boat, haven't even changed oars...............
