Prince George, B.C. - Prince George Cougars forward Spencer Asuchak is suspended eight games for testing positive for a banned substance The announcement comes from the Western Hockey League, in co-operation with the Canadian Hockey League and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
The banned substance methylhexaneamine, which was found in Spencer’s December 17 urine sample, is an ingredient in a supplement Spencer had been taking.
This is the same substance which caused Nigerian athlete Damola Osayemi to be stripped of her 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal for the 100m.
Methylhexaneamine was originally used as an ingredient in nasal sprays, but was later marketed by certain companies as a dietary supplement in combination with caffeine and other ingredients to be used as a general purpose stimulant.
