Prince George, B.C.- As the weather in Prince George changes from wet and mild to sunny and cold, that could pose new challenges for the road conditions.
The big melt  has given City crews time to clear the windrows of snow from routes like Ospika and Tabor, but the focus now is making certain the roads that were wet just yesterday, don’t turn into major skating rinks.
Streets Division supervisor Mick Jones says sanding crews are out in full force, “We have 6 on for the day shift, 4 in the afternoon shift and 6 on overnight so we are pretty much making sure we blanket the City.”
While there will be a crew working morning afternoon and evening on Saturday, the is no scheduled sanding from midnight Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday night. “If need be, we can head out on a service call if there is an area that needs sanding” says Jones.
The weather in January has really been a mixed mess says Jones, from the record breaking snowfall earlier in the month, to the mega melt that created swimming pools, “In December I thought Mother Nature must have liked me, we had hardly any snow and the snow removal budget was looking really good. Then along came January, and, well, I don’t think Mother Nature likes me anymore.”
Jones says the good news is, Environment Canada has taken the prediction of snow out of the forecast for the weekend.

Maybe they should be putting the sand in the potholes
I don't care what any of you say...I think the city crews do a great job. They can only do so much unless you want to pay more taxes. I don't think they can fill potholes right now anyway. Doesn't it have to be warm to do that? I doubt they can do that in the winter.
You CAN pave in the winter but you end up with very grouchy paving crew and a lot of equipment that just does want to work the way that you expect it to......and you have a very limited period of time to work the material.
