Prince George, B.C.- TELUS is investing $1.5 million to further expand its Prince George call centre and create 100 new local jobs in the next six months to support the growth of Optik TV.

“TELUS’ new Prince George team members will join our existing team supporting the continued expansion of Optik TV services across B.C. and Alberta,” said Chris Jensen, TELUS general manager for northern B.C. “We are looking forward to getting to work on the renovations and hiring so our new colleagues can get trained and start serving customers ordering TELUS’ Optik TV.”

TELUS is already taking applications for new call centre agents, and will hire steadily through the first half of the year as the expansion of the centre continues.

TELUS is rebuilding the remaining half of the floor in its 6th Avenue building that was turned into an expanded contact centre in 2008 to add new work spaces and a training room.

Expansion of the Price George contact centre began in 2008 with a $1.3 million renovation that allowed TELUS to increase the size of the contact centre from 75 to 166 agents. On completion of the 2011 expansion TELUS will employ about 266 contact centre team members in Prince George, including 24 hired in 2010 to support the growth of Optik TV. TELUS currently has a total of 292 team members in Prince George, which will grow to about 392 once the new call centre is fully staffed.

Anyone interested in applying for the new Prince George jobs can visit TELUS’ HR site at www.telus.com.

8.00 bucks an hour?
I've heard they get paid pretty good actually.
Looking on there website it's 19.30/hr plus sales incentives and benefits.
why are people always so negative?
Pretty decent wage given the qualifications required for the job. I don't suspect they'll have a hard time filling the spots.
Excellent news.....even if the wages is less than $19.30/hr. When was the last time we saw a good amount of jobs come to PG?

Even if the wage is $15/hr in PG that's still decent. Maybe not enough to afford the "toys" but still enough to pay for all the basics.

We as Canadians need to have a realistic idea of what jobs should offer in terms of wages. Not every job is going to pay $60K+. We do operate in a world economy and it does us no good to think we can expect to all be paid like rockstars.

I just read on CBC that the Canadian company Magna is going to open a plant in Mexico.......hhhhmmmmm a Canadian company is building a plant in Mexico.

You don't have to think too hard why they did that. All the autoworkers in Canada expect to be paid big money to do their jobs. Well, great, but don't be too surprised when a new plant is opened somewhere else. Have union/people's expectations gone too far?

If unions were thinking about the future they would try to figure out how to help open new plants for their members. Afterall, no plant means no jobs......and oh yeah...no union.
some peopel seem to hav ebeen eating a lot of lemons lately... even $8 and hour is better than no job.
An article on the same subject, on the Citizen online edition, says the jobs expect to pay $50,000 to $55,000 per year.
Just wait until someone comes up with all the negative hype about why Shysterville doesn't even deserve these new jobs!

A job with a lower starting wage and the opportunity to advance is better than no job at all!

Telus annoys the heck out of me. They call all the time from their call centers trying to sell me their services. I tell them not to call anymore and they call the next night. Always some automaton from a call center in India I think... so incredibly dumb they have left messages on my answering machine thinking I answed the phone so they just go on like they are talking to me reading out the script... friggen annoying and I'll never use their services because of calls like this. As well when I used them in the past damn near impossible to get a live operator on the line when a person has issues.

I hope this new call center will be part of an improvement?
Nice to see they are real jobs and not at a call center somewhere for minimum wage.
Like New Delhi.
And you're right Eagleone...they ARE annoying!
Eagleone you should get the Telus service called "Do Not Disturb". It even blocks Telus calls. You program who you want to let through all the time, anytime, automatically on and off or on all the time. If people will be phoning from a phone that you might be blocking then you can give them an access code so they can get through. When the system is on all they get is "This party isn't accepting calls at this time please call back later. If you know the system access code please enter now".

So drop "Call Waiting" and get "Do not Disturb".

No I don't work for Telus. But I do use "Do not Disturb".

50,000 - 55,000 per year plus benefits is a great wage.
