RCMP Investigating Death of Burns Lake Teen

Prince George, B.C. -  RCMP are releasing details this afternoon about the suspicious death of a 17-year-old girl in the Burns Lake area earlier this week...

Sergeant Rob Vermeulen says Burns Lake RCMP officers responded to a call of an unconscious female at a home on Uncha Mountain Road on Wednesday afternoon.  Vermeulen says the teenager was dead when officers arrived.  The scene was cordoned off and the North District's Forensic Identification section was called in.

The B.C. Coroner's Service is also on-scene and a thorough examination of the area is still underway.

Vermeulen says, "A forensic autopsy has been ordered to assist in determining the exact cause of the death. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances around her death and if those circumstance are criminal in nature."

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Victim services has been called in to assist family and friends.

Police are encouraging anyone with information to call the Burns Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Uncha Mountain Road is on the south side of Francois Lake, not in the town of Burns Lake. There are some Cheslatta and Nee-Tahi-Bun reserves as well as non-natives around there.
