Prince George, B.C. – Today is the day a Prince George man, who Police allege is a member of the GTS gang, is supposed to be deported to his home country of South Africa.
23 year old Francois Meerholz was released on a $5,000. Security put up by his fiancé and his younger brother Dillon.
As part of the terms of his release, Meerholz was required to report to the Canada Border Services Agency office in Prince George on a daily basis.
Opinion250 has attempted to determine if, in fact, Meerholz will be (as the CBSA refers to it)“removed” today, or if he has launched an appeal in an effort to remain in the country.
Meerholz was ordered “removed” because of criminality and failing to report new charges and convictions to the Canada Border Services Agency although he was under a previous agreement to do just that.
When the CBSA was asked if Meerholz will in fact be escorted out of the country today, the answer received was that, for safety and security reasons, details on “removal arrangements” are not provided. “Those ordered to leave Canada are only removed by the CBSA once all due process has been completed. Once a removal has taken place, the CBSA will confirm” read the reply to our questions.
The notice from the CBSA also says “Prior to removal, individuals may file a claim for refugee protection, seek leave for judicial review, as well as administrative review procedures”. When Opinion250 asked if any such claims had been filed by Meerholz, we were told the CBSA is not at liberty to release that kind of information.
