Lining up for a tasty treat at the Cabane a Sucre (Sugar Shack) at St. Mary's

Prince George, B.C. -  It was a beautiful start to Les Cercle des Canadiens Francais' annual winter festival in Prince George at St. Mary's school yesterday...

This is the 26th year the week-long festival celebrating French Canadian culture and heritage has been held in our city.

The opening day's festivities included a brunch in the gymnasium at St. Mary's school, complete with traditional food and musical performances on-stage.  The gym was packed with families enjoying themselves.

Outside, the line up was longest at the sugar shack where hot maple syrup was poured onto ice shavings and everyone got to roll their own treat onto a popsicle stick.

At right, Nicholas Faller, mom, Corinne, and sister, Regan, were enjoying the day's events.  Nicholas said the maple syrup treat was "delicious"

Other outdoor activities included a cross-cut competition and rides in a horse-drawn wagaon.  Click on photo at left for video clip

The festival runs until next Saturday, February 5th when it wraps up with a dinner and dance at the Columbus Community Centre.  For a complete listing of events go to www.ccfpg.ca
