Prince George, B.C. - Nominations for the Province's highest recognition of excellence and lifetime achievement -- the Order of British Columbia -- are now being accepted for 2011.
Since the Order of B.C. was established in 1989, 303 British Columbians have been honoured. The Executive Director of the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, Barbara Ward-Burkitt was one of 15 recipients to receive the order last year.
Lieutenant-Governor, Steven Point, says "(The order) avails us the opportunity to publicly recognize the good works of those in our communities who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to make our lives better."
"Please take the time, as grateful citizens, to identify and nominate those special people worthy of being honoured in this significant way."
The nomination deadline is 5pm, March 10th. Any Service B.C. office has the nomination forms, or they can be downloaded from www.orderofbc.gov.bc.ca
A dinner and special ceremony will be hosted by Lt.-Gov. Point at Government House for the recipients later this year.
