Air Quality Advisory Issued

Prince George, B.C. - The Ministry of Environment has issued an air quality advisory for Prince George...
Air Quality Meteorologist, Dennis Fudge, says an upper high pressure ridge moving over the region has trapped pollutants in the airshed...and some are at, or slightly above, the provincial objectives. Fudge says based on air quality data, the high levels are mainly due to a combination of wood smoke, emissions from industry, and road dust.
The objective for fine particulates, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre averaged over 24-hours. As of 8am this morning, the level was 25 at the Plaza 400 downtown monitoring station and it was 26 in College Heights. The provincial objective for coarse particulates, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre. The reading at the Plaza 400 was 57, it was 61 at the BCR, and 43 in College Heights.
Fudge says he expects the wind to pick up as the high pressure ridge moves through the region and conditions are expected to gradually improve overnight.
However, as part of the city's 'Free Fare for Clean Air', transit service wil be free tomorrow.
