Prince George, B.C. -  Pacific Brewery has just announced plans for a $1-million dollar upgrade to its brewery and headquarters in Prince George.

According to a news release, work actually began at the start of the month and "Pacific Brewery will source services and equipment from local suppliers wherever possible."

The investment will, in part, go towards 'refreshing' the brewery's exterior along Nechako Road, create a renewed hospitality area and includes purchase andinstallation of new brewing and packaging equipment.  Company President and CEO Kazuko Komatsu says the interior upgrades will incorporate local pine beetle wood to demonstrate support for the region's forest industry.

Komatsu says, "British Columbians have been very enthusiastic about our beers and we would also like to thank all our customers and parters for their support and loyalty which has enabled us to make this significant re-investment."

The brewery was originally built in 1957.  It employs 60 people during peak seasons.  As part of events to celebrate Komatsu's 20-year of ownership, a water program will be introduced this spring.

good news for Prince George. The latest in an avalanche of good economic news for the city. prince George could become rated number 1 in economic growth. just have ti figure out how NOT be number 1 in crime.
@littleguy

I love it when I am traveling and I find a place that serves PWB beer. It is neat to see that we aren't only in BC.
I love beer.
I heard that PWB is #2 in sales in Japan trailing only Bud. Can someone clarify that for me please?

PWB is a great little company and they really do care about the people of PG.

Canterbury is PWB beer? Hmmm...didn't know that.....

I've seen that brand all over the place.

Very good news for PG!
1957 you say...I was 9 years old at the time , and I thought it was later than that when Uncle Ben (Ginter). stood up against the big boys and started his own brewery.Times certainly have changed , I recall my parents having his beer and all the innovations he tried to bring to the market. Later on he bottled "Uncle Bens " in the bottle with a unique pull -off tab...the first to be seen in the PG area.
Then he brought in the "can"...unheard of again in the North...We recently were clearing out a house in Prince George and came across 2 Uncle Bens beer cans in mint condition (unopened by the way) and an unopened "Yukon Gold "bottle....Brought back a lot of memories..haven't decided what to do with the 3 items....

A call in 1977 to Ben Ginter ..... best beer in North America???
Does anybody know what a "water program" is?
That link doesn't work
I have a Uncle Bens Grape soda can and a Ginter Ale can. I didnt even remember he even made canned pop till I found them.
Tartan Breweries: I still love that name,
and loved the uncle Ben's pop, in the brown stubbie beer bottles. You could cover up the label with your hand and pretend you were drinking beer, even if you were only 12 years old.
