Initiatives Prince George says there is a case to be made for pushing for regional development that will benefit the area rather than specifically Prince George.
"With containerization in our backyard, the growth of mining, gas and oil, the opportunities are endless" said IPG's boss, Gerry Offet.
2006 will be a "turnaround year for City Center Ventures and downtown development" says the head of IPG. Offet is confident there will be residential mixed use development saying Yves Ghaia was here over the weekend to meet with City officials and things look very positive. The tax reduction program is being well received, and Offett says they are working with a number of developers on possible projects.
The IPG budget calls for a City contribution of $1,278,834.00, and the deferral of a request for $82,500.00 on a personnel issue.
According to Offet, discussions are underway with several "major industrial" companies to bring those "higher paying jobs" to Prince George.Offet says he expects to see the announcement of an inland port "sooner rather than later and that contrary to what some people write, an inland port doesn't necessarily need to be a single megolithic structure, that it can be several facilities in varying locations packaging and re-packaging." Offett is speaking of the CN plan to have a container stuffing facility which Opinion250 revealed Friday February 10th.

I think $82,000 to find a replacement for Offet is ludicrious. I'd be willing to bet Offet's retirement has no plans to stay in PG.
IMO IPG is the good ol boys club filled with people that feel they are owed entitlment and are paid by the city tax payer to pursue their own agenda's with our tax dollar. I can't think of a single success story that came out of IPG.
