City crews do not anticipate making it into residential areas today

Prince George, B.C. -  The city's main roads, problem hills and bus routes will be the priority today, as the snow eases and removal operations begin...

"We had our full night shift out last night and we're ramping up with any piece of equipment we can get to get the snow that fell yesterday cleaned up," says the City's Supervisor of Streets Operations, Mick Jones.

"We're still calling contractors, trying to get them lined up for the day," says Jones.  "I would expect it to be somewhere in th area of25 and 33 pieces of equipment during the day and anywhere between 45 and 55 pieces tonight, depending on what we can get - we're in the process of making all the calls."

With so much snow falling yesterday, getting it off the roads was the priority, with snowblowing operations along University Way and Ospika, rather than any snow removal.  The downtown core was windrowed last night, Jones says pick up efforts will begin tonight.

He says it's unlikely city crews will make their way into any residential areas today, "We need to get caught up on the priority routes first, then we'll begin moving in ahead of garbage pick-up."

It was less than one month ago, January 17th in fact, when Mother Nature found us in this very same position on a Monday morning.

Good luck
Could the fine drivers in our city please realize that the road is narrower when the windrows are piled down the middle? Victoria St is effectively a two lane street right now, not four like in August. Slow down, move over and relax...
I echo the same statement as Interceptor,ALL the streets are narrowed, please remember you are not the only one on the road!!
Yeah, I was wondering when they were gonna get started.

It was kind of thick and chewy down Ospika last night. I figured they would have hit it by then. But, it makes sense for them to hold it off too tonight, then they can clean it up with the upcoming snow that is going to show up tonight.

Despite, what is said by most, I am reasonably happy with the snow removal efforts.
Of course, I also drive a one ton diesel, so I normally plow thru most snow falls.
Ooo you better keep that diesel. B.C. will be banning those soon because they aren't energy efficient.
