The Community Planning Council's  has been guaranteed enough funding to get it through till the end of March, but it's services are  being given a good  going over by City Administration and Council before any additional funding will be approved.

The CPC  has in the past received an anual grant of $35 thousand dollars.  This year, the budget request is for $108 thousand dollars.  The Planning Council has run into funding challenges in the past, when it didn't receive funding it had planned on, from other parties.

Funding sources are drying up says the Planning Council, meaning they spend too much time trying to apply for grants and not  enough on making  plans for the future.

Council has instructed Administration to  go over the Planning Council's services and identify those which are  crucial, and funding based on those specific services will then be considered.

In 2005 the Community Planning Council has completed a variety of projects including:
developing the youth civic/social responsibility network
organized and hosted a varitey of public forums including the crystal meth forum
worked with city staff to  develop a social impact assessment model
provided information and data to City staff and Mayor  and Council on  issues such as gambling, AIDS, crystal meth, homlessness etc
provided research and input  to city on the issue of Community gaming centres

Did you ever think that if the funding is drying up that something might be wrong somewhere? So now youexpect the city to pay up instead..... get real
This article kind of follows what the CPC wants to view it's self as.
What the CPC really does is provide employment for social activists anda way to raise money for themselves.
I still remember years ago when I first became concerned about some of the funny projects and demands that were coming out of this group. So I applied to join and sent in my membership money. My money was returned, and a note that said I was not welcome as they doubted I would fit in.

Naturally this brunch should not be taxpayer funded, nor should any other right or left fringe group with an elite membership.
