Prince George, B.C. - With the Opening Ceremony for the 2011 Canada Winter Games set to begin in Halifax later this afternoon, a local 'flag raising' ceremony is planned just prior, to mark the four-year countdown to the games in our city...
Prince George Mayor, Dan Rogers, along with a number of members of the 2015 Host Society will be on-hand for the ceremonies taking place in the Halifax Metro Centre. The first local contingent flew out on Wednesday - the trips are staggered to observe different aspects of the Halifax Games.
The live broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies begins at 3pm local time on TSN, and so, at 2:30 this afternoon, Acting Mayor Shari Green will be on-hand to raise a Canada Games flag in front of Prince George city hall.
"The official Canada Games flag has visited each past-host community while en route to today's opening ceremony in Halifax," says Green. "We are so pleased to have our own flag raising ceremony today to mark Prince George's addition to the Canada Games host family."
City residents are being encouraged to come out and show their support for the 2011 hosts in Halifax, as well as the athletes, coaches and volunteers taking part. There are 11 local athletes participating over the course of the two week event.
