Local Athletes In Action At Winter Games

Prince George, B.C. - Team BC fell 5-4 in overtime in their first hockey game of the 2011 Winter Games in Halifax yesterday.
The team, which includes 15-year-old Josh Connelly of Prince George, will play Nova Scotia in Pool A action at 12pm pacific.
Sarah Pousette finished 14th out of 29 today in the Long Track Speedskating 500m. And Phillip Shrimpton wrapped up his third race of the games with a 19th place finish in the Long Track 1500-metre event. Another member of the Blizzards Club, 18-year-old Tim Hempsall is racing in the qualifying heat for the Short Track 1500m Male.
Three members of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club have biathlon events today. Both 19-year-old Aaron Neumann and 17-year-old Rob Martin are competing in the 15km Individual Male. And 16-year-old Sarah Beaudry is racing in the 12.5-km Individual Female.
Prince George athlete Avril Harris is on BC's wheelchair basketball team, which plays Alberta today.
As for the medal count after day one's action, Quebe leads with 3 Gold, 3 Silver and two Bronze, followed by Alberta with 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze, BC is in third spot with 1 bronze in speedskating, captured by Tori Spence of Kamloops in the 1000m Female.
