Prince George, B.C. -  The CN Rail line west of Prince George has been closed by a train derailment, just past the community of Endako...

CN Rail Spokesperson, Lindsay Fedchyshyn, says 36 cars of the westbound train left the track at approximately 5:30pm last night, 152-kilometres west of Prince George, closing the route.  She says none of the crew was injured.  The cars were carrying coal and there is no environmental impact as a result of the derailment.

She said the mishap occurred in a sparsely populated area, 32-kilometres west of Endako.  Just what caused the accident is still under investigation.

Crews have been working at the scene since and the mainline is expected to re-open late this afternoon.

Unless there's been another derailment, it's actually at Fort Fraser.
The CN coal train derailed late yesterday evening in the middle of Fort Fraser just west of Telegraph Road. There are currently about 10 excavators and at least a couple of cats trying to clean up the mess along with lots of other equipment. They have a couple of large truck loads of new rail sections ready to install once the mess is cleaned up. Many of the cars that left the track are totally mangled. CN Police are trying to keep people away from the area.
Fort Fraser is east of Endako. Was there two seperate incidents or unaccurate reporting?
Yo Jaime, any free coal?
What was it, an open switch, broken rail, joint, sinkhole. Been a long time since I repaired track in that area.
And the same old catch lines from CN...time the government stood up to them and demand the tracks be certified or shut them down.... I know that people will be out of jobs for awhile but probably better unemployed than dead.Better shut down that total devastation.
Here we go again......the old story......government and CN bashing. Fly at it!
Bashing? I don't think so... if any other form of transportation had as many incidents as CN has they would have been out of business a long time ago... Are we supposed to wait until there is injuries, death and environmental damage before action is taken?

They, CN, spout the same old phrases everytime they have an incident or derail!
They make like it is a trivial thing!

And as for the government the stand by and do nothing.... every time!
When BCRail had all its many derailments the government of the day stood by and did nothing.... every time!

Same story, nothing new!
As a resident of Fort Fraser and a member of the Fort Fraser Volunteer Fire Department I can tell you that we are no where near Endako. Endako is west of Fraser Lake and Fraser Lake is 20some Km west of Fort Fraser......if this all confuses you, get a map! Yes Fort Fraser is a small community; however, we are not a sparsely populated area but we are also not a big city. As a resident I am happy that this train was hauling coal and not gas or something that turned our HOME into Chernobyl. I can honestly tell you that the Fort Fraser, Fraser Lake, or Vanderhoof Volunteer Fire Departments were not called. There were police there the night of the 12th, but this morning CN would not let anybody down the road that runs along the section of track where the derailment occured which tells me that CN is trying to cover for something. Last night while clean up was underway we did manage to take some pretty good pictures, we were there for a good half hour. So what was the big deal between last night with big spotlights shining on the wreckage and this morning in the sunlight.

CN needs to clean up their act I think.
When the sale of BC Rail was taking place, the regular rhetoric coming from the CN side was that they could eliminate a lot of jobs as BC Rail did too much maintenance work and it was unnecessary to spend that much on maintenance.
"When BCRail had all its many derailments the government of the day stood by and did nothing.... every time" - maybe so, but times have changed, people are more conscious of the environment, people want multinational corporations to be more accountable for thier mistakes, people don't trust politicans or the democratic process as much now, so why should we allow a company, such as US owned CN to run roughshod over our concerns, and treat them like they mean nothing.
The people on the road at CN do want those tracks fixed, believe me...but gov't doesn't do it...CN wants them fixed....don't you know that BCRacer
One has to ask why all the derailments are on coal trains. If it were the tracks other types of trains would be derailing.I can recall seven coal train derailments in the last five years in northern BC.All on 40mph plus tracks.I read last year that many coal train wheels were recalled because the wheels weren't properly pressed onto their axels.Maybe they missed a few.Maybe these coal trains should be slowed down going through our communities.Maybe these types of cars shouldn't be on the same trains as dangerous goods. Can the railways be trusted to self regulate(safety vs profit).
Where is Transport Canada? Seems like alot of unanswered questions still out there.

Ben,maybe you can ask some of theses questions.

Or maybe Lois Boone. Seems to be part of here new platform
Fort Fraser resident is right about the geography, Endako is definitely West of the thriving metropolis that is Fraser Lake. Good old Endako Pub, is it still open for business? Spent a few hours in that place when working construction at a much earlier version of Endako Mines.
metalman.
The pub is still open and the food is still the best....well the last time I was there it was the best. Clam Chowder to die for (better than Earls in PG), the steak sandwich is so tender you can cut the steak with a butter knife. You would never guess that bumble&^$# Endako would have the best food around. No I do not work there or know the owner personally nor am I the owner I just like to spread the word of good food when I know about it.
