Prince George, B.C. - Travelers heading in and out of the Prince George Airport will now have the added convenience of being able to stay connected without a cost...

The Prince George Airport Authority has selected a service provider and will offer free wireless service at YXS.  And it's a 'big gun' in the field.  BOLDStreet Wireless powers all public WiFi networks for Starbucks, Second Cup, Bell Mobility, Rogers Wireless and Rogers Cable in Canada.

Airport CEO, John Gibson, says “BOLDstreet’s product is common throughout our industry and is being used at Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria and Kelowna airports.”  He says it was important for the PGAA to ensure the "quality of product" on this new service initiative.

The free service began yesterday.

While we may not be charged a direct fee for the wireless service, make no mistake...we pay for it everytime we fork over the dough for airport fees and an airline ticket!
Nothing is ever "free".
FINALLY! I've been so, so embarrassed at our airport. And it's not just the lack of free wifi. Last time I flew, the "convenience" store had stopped bringing in magazines. And far too many times I have been there and the only place to get a cup of coffee was closed.

There are some services that really should be mandatory in an airport: free wifi, coffee and something to read are some of them - just ask Starbucks.
If enough comments to the airport suggestion box is made, maby these issues will be dealt with.
I agree mom, if there are flights going in & out the restaurant & bar should be open. It's pathetic.
Better late than never on the WiFi.
But we have a nice long runway
Someone has to provide an imaginative solution to the problem of services to the airport. The fact is, there are not enough passengers for a service operator to make a living at providing such services.

1. lounge/bar
2. food services
3. gift/magazine store.
4. taxi stand
5. airporter

I think a combination of not enough flights, very short flights and a small airport where one can come very close to departure time thus not providing enough time to sit for a cup of coffee, all create difficulty with drawing in customers.

I would think the first thing to do would be to combine gifts and news retail with the food services function.

In addtion, if they were able to provide a service area which had access to both the non-secure and secure departure area, there would be additional opportunity to pick up some business.

Maybe someone in the world has figured out a better solution to servicing small airports without compromising security.

Here is info on a business which targets 500,000+ passengers per year airports in the USA .... we are getting close ot that volume.

"GameTime recently took over the food and beverage services for airports in Corpus Christi and Abilene, where it also operates the gift and news retail."
