Prince George, B.C. - While Kamloops Speedskater Tori Spence captured Team BC's first gold of the 2011 Winter Games in Halifax in the Long Track 3000m event with a commanding eight-second lead over the silver medalist from Quebec. Prince George's Sarah Pousette was only two-seconds behind the third place finisher, BC's Josie Spence, but Pousette had to settle for 6th...
The 3000m was Pousette's 4th event at the Games, and her best finish to date. Her final race is tomorrow - the Long Track Team Pursuit.
Another member of the Prince George Blizzards Speed Skating Club had a strong showing. Tim Hempsall finished in 6th place in the Short Track 500m event, with the strongest showing for Team BC. Hempsall placed 8th in the 1500m race.
Back to Long Track, PG's Phillip Shrimpton came 19th in the 5000m event, followed by Braden James Clouthier of Dawson Creek in 20th.

Shrimpton has skated in four events and will wrap up his Winter Games' experience with tomorrow's Long Track Team Pursuit.
To wheelchair basketball, after starting off with two wins, Team BC fell hard to Quebec, 90-39 yesterday.
Quesnel's Erik Vliegenthart had 9-points in the losing effort, while local athlete Avril Harris had 7. Team BC will face Saskatchewan later today. The team sits in 2nd place in its pool, behind unbeaten Quebec.
Team BC also suffered its first loss in hockey, going down 5-1 to Ontario. BC is now in 3rd place in Pool A.
