Prince George, B.C. -  Mayor Dan Rogers has just arrived back in Prince George after spending the past week in Halifax observing the final preparations and launch of the 2011 Canada Winter Games...

His initial reaction:  "Frankly, overwhelmed."

He says he knew, in theory, the scope of the games, but says, "Untill you get up-close and personal, it's hard to imagine - to be exposed to the thousands of athletes that are moving through the streets of Halifax throughout the day, to see the world class venues that they have, to see the amount of business and commerce that's going on in the restaurants and in the shops of Halifax - it's overwhelming."

Rogers says it is a truly "massive" event and preparing for the 2015 Winter Games in Prince George will have to involve the whole community, and whole province, to make it a truly unique and memorable event.

Hey, it's Halifax, the cultural centre and defacto capital of the Maritimes. Around 4 hours drive from St. John, Fredericton and Charlottetown.

4 hours of driving time from here gets us to Clinton, Dawson Creek, Smithers and Jasper.

Our 4 hour drive "trading area" is not much more than half the population of metro Halifax.

Let us make sure we are comparing apples to apples before we get too overwhelmed.

I hope that one of the things our PR people are doing at this time, even though there may not be any in place yet with that responsibility, is to recrod some of the clips that are constantly being shown by tourism NS and others about the wonders of visting that part of Canada. I am hoping that Tourism BC will have enough money for that occasion to be beaming out tons of info on this part of the world that will cause people to give some serious consideration to make their next vacation in this region.
"Frankly, overwhelmed."

Frankly it dos not take much to "overwhelm our Mayor

Whats even more overwhelming is the nerds and that includes IPG that are travelling on the taxpayers dime to bring back all the good news that this event will bring to our City.

Humbug
