Coquitlam, B.C. - An arrest has been made in connection  with the double fatal hit and run crash from yesterday.

A 37 year old  Coquitlam man has been arrested and is in custody.  Police will be recommending a number of criminal code offences to crown counsel. The suspect will appear in Port Coquitlam court February 21.

The arrest follows a crash on Saturday when a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 26 year old Port Coquitlam woman and her 28 year old boyfriend crashed at the intersection of the Lougheed Highway and Pitt River Road in Coquitlam.  A 30 year old woman and her 29 year old husband, also of Port Coquitlam, stopped to offer assistance to the couple.

While they were standing outside the Nissan, a 1995 white Jeep Cherokee struck the  two women and the 28 year old man, killing the two women instantly. The man was transported to local hospital where he is being treated for injuries to his leg and head. Tragically, the good Samaritan's husband witnessed this horrific event.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene but was located a few kilometers away. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination as part of the on-going investigation.

Out of respect for the families involved, police have not released the names of the victims.

Nice work on the police's part. That was pretty quick. Congratulations to them. Very sorry for the loss of two lives though.
Nice work sure... but it was easy work.

They had the vehicle so it was just a matter of time.

How much do ya wanna bet the guy might try to say his vehicle was stolen and he didn't even know it?
Manslaughter for leaving the scene it should be in my opinion.
my guess first degree for intgentionally hitting them, downgraded to manslaughter by the deceitful lawlers.
What do ya wanna bet the man was drinking!
Given the time of day and the mans actions the odds are pretty high .
Thats the first thing that crossed my mind too when I read the story.....drunk driver! I wonder if we will hear the full details of this case down the road....
It was a horrific scene. Police were initially contacted the next day by the suspect's lawyer and there was a passenger in the jeep cherokee who came forward.
Agreed! Correction to the people that cannot read or hear the right story. As the police had no part in finding the man. The man turned himself in. And it was said in the news that he originally tried to turn himself in but was turned away for unknown charges. My heart goes out to all the family members! including the accused family as his children also have to deal with the grim reality to what thier father has done.He should have to carry around a picture in his pocket of the two woman to whom he took their lives away.
Wrong, ignorant_42. A team of investigators have worked very hard gathering information which led to the discovery that there was a passenger. Further investigation has and will trace the driver's activities prior to the accident which will substantiate the charges.
