Prince George, B.C. - Saturday was change-over day in Halifax - 1800 athletes flew out after wrapping up their participation in week one of the Canada Winter Games, another 1800 flew in to prepare for their sporting events in the second week of competition.
Two local athletes were part of the incoming crew: 21-year-old cross-country skier Matt Neumann and 15-year-old alpine skier Alix Wells.
Neumann is competing in four events, starting with today's Men's 10km Free event. Neumann is a member of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club. He is a six-time Canadian National Biathlon Champ who's goal is to compete in the 2014 Olympics. His brother, Aaron, was competing in biathlon at the games last week, and won a bronze medal in the men's relay event.
Competition does not begin until Wednesday for Alix Wells, when she'll race in the Super-combined. The 15-year-old is the top-ranked BC female heading into competition (click here for previous story), she also placed 1st in last year's K2 National Championship in the Giant Slalom and was the 2010 K2 Provincial champ.
Also in Halifax this week are local coaches Bruce Kamstra and Aline Strasdin, who are assisting Team BC judo athletes and Lisa Davison who is the provincial team manager for badminton.
