Prince George, B.C.- The Tour de North Cops for Cancer Tour will take on a new route this year.
The tour has travelled east to west from Prince George to Prince Rupert, for the past nine years, but Tour de North will take a North south route this year. The September bike run will start in Fort St. John and will travel to Williams Lake from September 9th to 15th.
Event spokesperson, Dan Wingham says this will give the communities along the east to west route a bit of a rest, and will present the opportunity to expand the regional concept of the tour.
Wingham says it is expected the Tour will return to the east to west route next year, and then back to the north south route in 2013. It means this instead of being a kick off community, Prince George will be hosting a mid-tour event set for September 13th.
Last year, the Tour de North raised $226 thousand dollars, and hopes to top that amount this year.
All money raised will go towards childhood cancer research and caring support services including the acclaimed summer recreation program, Camp Goodtimes.
