The Prince George Cougars will be facing the US division's top two teams in the next three games, starting Tuesday and Wednesday against the Portland Winterhawks.
The Cougars and Winterhawks will be facing off for the third and fourth times this season, with Portland taking the first two games in Portland in mid-December. The Winterhawks picked up 4-1 and 7-4 victories at the Rose Garden on December 10 and 11. In the second game of that double header, the Cougars fired a season high 48 shots on net. The Cougars come into the game back at an even .500 with a 28-28-2-1 record, still third in the BC division and the sixth seed in the Western Conference. The Cougars dropped the first two games of this four game home stand, with back-to-back losses to the Everett Silvertips on the weekend.
The Winterhawks come into the game with 39 wins and 81 points on the season, but were overtaken by the Spokane Chiefs for first in the US division Monday. The Winterhawks boast eight players who were drafted in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in June, including the first two WHL picks in Ryan Johansen, who went fourth overall to Columbus, and Nino Niederreiter, the fifth overall selection of the New York Islanders.
Puck drop is 7:00pm at CN Centre Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets are available by calling Ticketmaster at 250-564-5585. After these two games, the Cougars head on the road for a date with Spokane Friday, to open three games in three nights. The Cougars will also go to Everett Saturday and Chilliwack Sunday.
