Prince George, B.C.- The woodstove exchange program will be back up and running as of March 1st.

The program is aimed at having residents exchange their old inefficient fine particulate matter emitting stoves for new, higher efficiency and cleaner burning models.

“This year’s program will be offering a $500.00 rebate to qualifying residents who wish to exchange their old non-certified wood burning appliance to a new EPA/CSA low emission appliance including gas, pellet, and clean burning wood stoves or inserts” says Kathryn Graham-PGAIR Coordinator.

The City of Prince George will be waiving the permit fee for the month of March and April and additional in-store discounts will be offered at participating retailers.

Participating retailers this year are:
·        Furnaceland,

·        Dale’s Wood and Gas Heating

·        Fraser Plumbing and Heating

·        Mainline Plumbing and Heating

The program is run on a first come first serve basis and there are a limited number of rebates.
You can get more information on the program and details on   qualifying by contacting one of the participating retailers, or the PGAIR Coordinator at 250-561-9114

Finally. Now people will start changing their stoves. It takes an incentive like this to get interest in such a program.
What type of homeowner is heating his residence with an uncertified wood stove. We installed one in 1984 and it had to be certified so who could possibly qualify for this rebate. Seems like a scam.
But it probably isn't certified to todays EPA/CSA standards. Woodburning technology has vastly improved since 1984, so on that alone your stove would probably qualify as uncertified. My question is, why do it in March, shouldn't this have been done in say, Sept or Oct?
Talked to the lady at 561-9114 and was told there are a lot of uncertified wood stoves operating in the city. So these people must be operating with no insurance. Our carrier said they will not insure anyone with an uncertified heater and did not know of anyone that does. If anyone knows of a company that does maybe you could post it.
I have to laugh.. People complaining about paying taxes for snow removal, road repairs, whatever. The GREEN AGENDA is the biggest waste of tax money the world has ever seen. Everybody is on board. What a joke. The carbon emitted by humans is hardly measureable compared to what the sun causes. Nature will take its course with or without our GREEN AGENDA. It's good to protect the environment but we have gone way to far. It's a money grab for the people controlling the carbon credit programs. Plain and simple...It's bull s4it Oscar...Don't eat it.
another good Reason not to live in a City , so many Rules, some are good others are just money makers and some People should be certified , the next Ice Age is just around the Corner give or take a few 100 Years. Don't forget after you buy the new Stove to book your Trip to Mexico and screw in your new Light Bulbs.
My neighbor was smokin' me out so to speak and I hassled him until he bought a new stove. Guess what? He still smolders his wood and smokes me out. Whatever kind of burner you have makes no difference really if you don't want to burn it properly. It gets too hot in his 600 square foot house so he shuts the air off and smolders for 24/7. Green stove my ass.
I have a wood burner as well--bought in 1973. It is CSA approved and my insurance company took pictures of it and I have never been pressured by them to replace it. When I adjust the dampers properly, there is little or no smoke coming from the chiminey. When my house gets too hot, I let it go out rather than opening a window.
Kathryn- called 5 insurance companys and they know of no one who is insured with an uncertified wood heater ( they actually laughed). Maybe a good time for a vacation as I don't expect you are going to be too busy answering the phones.
I must be livng next to an uninsured house then, OR someone didn't declare their auxillary wood heater. It smokes away all the time. Come to think of it, there are a lot of smokey chimneys around town. I wonder how they all got insured?
