Prince George, B.C.- A Summit Lake man is lucky to be alive,  after his  Volkswagen Jetta  got stuck in the ruts of a railway crossing near highway 97 moments before the vehicle was struck by a train.

The vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 57 year old Summit Lake man, became stuck in the ruts on the tracks. The driver saw the train coming, got out of his vehicle, and was able to make his way to  safety.

No one was injured in this collision. There was no apparent damage to the locomotive, however the vehicle suffered significant damage.

The RCMP would like to remind the traveling public to be extra cautious around rail road tracks at this time of year. There may be build up of ice and snow that may make the tracks more difficult to cross.

No apparant damage to the locomotive... what ya mean, there is a scrape on the rust.
Small car with little tires, but hey good gas mileage. Tradeoff, live or die.
Small tires? I had a 1995 VW Golf GTI, had 17" rims. My 3/4 ton HD diesel I own now only has 16".
Someone racing a train maybe???
Almost got stuck in those futs on another crossing. Thankfully got car out. No train was coming so no panic at the time.
Wow the first guy in the PG area to actually stop at a public xing and he gets hit.
What's a fut?
I'm kinda stumped as to how you get stuck in "train ruts". Aren't you supposed to "cross" the tracks rather than parallel them? Somber up.
Anyone want to bet that the ruts have been removed now. It's like after an accident that section is all sanded and before you couldn't stand up on the road. On the road to Miworth the ruts are very bad, I quess they will be removed if someone has an accident ( There has already been two single vehicle ditch encounters)
We went into town today at about 2:00 PM and there was another accident at about the same spot as the last two. Stopped and checked to see if everyone was all right and nobody was injured but the car was damaged and perched on the bank. The young lady had lost control in the ruts and another motorist said that there had been another accident there this morning making it a total of four. As we left the RCMP arrived. I called YRB to see if they could do something about the ruts and explained about all the accidents and the receptionist said she would pass it on. We came home about 7:00 and nothing had been done. Maybe if we could have the Iceman event further out it would get plowed as there were two graders working on the road a couple of days before the event.
