Summit Lake Man Escapes Injury When Car Gets Stuck in Railway Ruts

Prince George, B.C.- A Summit Lake man is lucky to be alive, after his Volkswagen Jetta got stuck in the ruts of a railway crossing near highway 97 moments before the vehicle was struck by a train.
RCMP say they responded to the call of a train collision with a vehicle around 9:30 last night. The collision occured at Tallus Road near Highway 97, north of Prince George.

The vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 57 year old Summit Lake man, became stuck in the ruts on the tracks. The driver saw the train coming, got out of his vehicle, and was able to make his way to safety.
No one was injured in this collision. There was no apparent damage to the locomotive,however the vehicle suffered significant damage.
The RCMP would like to remind the traveling public to be extra cautious around rail road tracks at this time of year. There may be build up of ice and snow that may make the tracks more difficult to cross.
