Terrace, B.C.- The Federal Government has yet to give its approval for the project, but B.C. Hydro is already examining the proposals from the short listed companies who want to build the Northwest Transmission Line.
The Provincial approval was announced on February 23rd. The Federal decision is not tied to the same time frame the Provincial government had to follow, but the Feds had indicated they would try to work within the same period.
There were four bids short listed for the $404 million dollar project last fall.
B.C. Hydro has already indicated it would like to make a final selection soon on who will build the line so construction could start this spring.
The cost of the line is being shared, with the Federal government committed to $130 million, AltaGas will pay $180 million in order to have access to the grid for it’s run of river power projects, and there has yet to be an agreement finalized with some of the mine developers who want to hook on to the line.
The line is expected to stretch from a Terrace substation to Bob Quinn Lake.
