Prince George, B.C.  – Here we go again, for the fourth straight year,  the CN Centre has been nominated for the prestigious Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Award: The “Air Canada Centre” Major Facility of the Year” (under 8,000 seats).

The CN Centre has been nominated every year the award has been presented.

The nomination tops off what can only be described as a truly remarkable one for the facility.

The jewel in the crown of a year of performances was the Elton John concert, a show which Prince George fans will be talking about for years to come.

“We hosted a remarkable range of amazing performers. These included rock shows like Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, and Bryan Adams, country shows like Corb Lund and Reba, and even comedy shows like Jeff Dunham” says Glen Mikkelsen, Entertainment & Marketing Supervisor.

The competition is stiff, with the CN Centre up against:

  • Brandt Centre in Regina
  • Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek
  • Enmax Centre in Lethbridge
  • Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie
  • GM Centre, Oshawa
  • K-Rock Centre, Kingston
  • Prospera Place, Kelowna and the
  • Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria

CN Centre & Community Arenas Manager Andy Beesley says, the nomination is a direct expression of the staff’s expertise and skilful ability to deliver exceptional service to promoters, artists and production crews. “It also is a reflection on the tremendous job our partner organizations deliver. Without the tremendous contributions from the staff from Ticketmaster, Eurest Foods, Regional Security, Phoenix First Aid, and International Crowd Management, the 2011 nomination would not be possible. We are also indebted to all the community organizations and businesses that help us and aid us in hosting world-class entertainment. The CN Centre is very fortunate to have such a passionate and committed team of people!”

The winner of The “Air Canada Centre” Major Facility of the Year, will be announced at the sold out Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry’s gala banquet next week in Toronto, Thursday, March 10th, 2011.

Congrats to the CN Center again on this awesome honor of being nominated for the 4th time!!!! Andy, Glen and all the staff at that facility do an amazing job. Here's hoping this is their year. Good luck gang.
Good we don't need a performing center right now, the CN Center works just fine until something bigger can be afforded.
An arena and a PAC are two totally different facilities built for totally different purposes.

An interesting article from a couple of years ago from St. Catherines. They had the opposite situation to ours. They were trying to justify a larger and newer arena while a PAC was well on the way to approval. That PAC is now being designed and built.

Here is what one of the Councillors who favoured a new arena said: A new arena will not compete with the performing arts centre, as each would attract different users. "Anyone who doesn't know the difference has spent too much time with one or the other,".

That is good news for Prince George but really, how many venues are there this size in BC or Canada?

I heard the parking lot wasn't plowed for last night's concert and a lot of people got stuck. Kind of bad planning on CN Centre's part.

Maybe some of the staff's annual $5,000+ trips to the states each year for event management could be cut back to add to the fund for the performing arts centre.
The parking lot was plowed last night, as usual, for all concerts and games!
Congrats! I think we had a great line up of entertainment this year. Some was not my taste of music but it's great that CN gets artists for all of the people in PG. Of course Sir Elton was the best one and hope he returns. I think another topper would be Neil Diamond. Seen him years ago in Vancouver and he is excellent. A concert that was unforgettable as was Sir Elton.
Parking lot was definitely plowed. I was there. As for the staffs annual trips, what's wrong with that? at least they're producing results and obviously learning something as the shows coming here seem to be getting bigger and better.

But I digress, some people just love to be negative.
Not sure what parking lot you were in but the one we parked in at CN Centre was not plowed. People got stuck.

As for the annual trips, how many times does one have to travel to the same conference to learn the same thing year after year. It`s not rocket science. I think City staff should have to take a reduction in their expenses so that taxes don`t go up every damm year.

So which one is it?
