Prince George, B.C. - It's been nearly a year since the groundbreaking at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. for the upgrades to the lab and medical imaging areas in preparation for their new role with the Northern Cancer Centre.
These diagnostic area renovations are Phase One of an $8.3 million, two-phased project that is part of the Northern Cancer Control Strategy (Phase Two is the development of six oncology beds at UHNBC)
The lab renovation portion has now been completed and the medical imaging portion of the renovations will be completed this spring.

The lab renovations include:
- A third blood collection station;
- Accessioning area (where specimans are received and prepared for processing) relocated to improve workflow and efficiency for lab staff
- Waiting area redesigned to increase seating and provide more privacy for clients presenting for lab services.
This combined lab and medical imaging renovation project will help to provide improved access to services for patients and will enable UHNBC to more fully support the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North in numerous areas, including blood collection and diagnostic testing.
The Northern Cancer Control Strategy is funding 60 per cent and the Fraser Fort George Regional Hospital District is funding 40 per cent of the total project costs.
