Prince George, B.C.- While Telus has announced plans for a new   $750 million dollar headquarters to be built in Vancouver, there is still no word on where Telus will locate its planned Data Centre.

It has now been two years since TELUS announced it would spend $500 million to increase and improve wireless and wireline broadband infrastructure in B.C.

Part of that plan included the development of an internet data centre that would support B.C. and national clients.

Initiatives Prince George Vice President of   Kathy Scouten says Prince George did submit a detailed plan with hopes the centre would be located in this community. “We worked very closely with the site selector, who said our proposal was a good one.”

One of the key issues for the data centre is that it be in an area that is seismically safe.

When it was first announced, it was expected the site would be selected by the summer of 2009, and the first module up and running sometime this year.   Here we are in 2011, and no indication of any decision on a site in the immediate future.
It has made some wonder if the project will ever advance.

TELUS spokesperson, Shawn Hall says the project is “still active” but he is not able to say when a decision may be forthcoming on where or when the data centre will be built . “There were two things that slowed this project down, one, the recession, it reduced the demand for services. Secondly,  there was a huge interest from people interested in being involved in this project.” He says it is taking some time to   examine all the possible locations and make the decision that will be the best for the project.

TELUS has indicated a commitment to Prince George in its expansion of the Prince George call centre. The company announced it would invest a further $1.5 million to expand the existing call centre and create 100 new jobs by June. There is a hiring session set for the Civic Centre on March 29th.

Guess what! I'm thinking they moved their plan to B.C. you know..... Vancouver. Why would they want to pay the high taxes here and get nothing for them?
CRTC ordered Telus to refund $31.25 to Telus home phone clients as well and that cheque was suppoosed to be send out in February and they haven't lived up to that either.
The Cheque I received is dated 2011-02-15 for #31.25. I received it last week.
Haven't got mine yet.
BTW, corporate property rates here are among the lowest in BC. Certainly considerably lower than the City of Vancouver. Something like a factor of 3 I believe.

We are supporting business property owners in this community. We are very kind here.
I wish the CRTC tells Telus to provide us living not in the City with High Speed Internet, so I can dump the one ripping me off right now (10 gb at 45$ a month plus setup and EQ for 550$). My Son on the Hart has 10 times the Internet Service from Telus compare to what I get. So much for Competition .
I dumped Telus internet Outwest...they aren't as advertised as far as I am concerned...it was taking a week for an email to get across town...I think their rates include storeage of emails not delivered..
Ever notice they have animals doing their advertising. I think it is probably because no human could make the comercial without either getting sick or laughing their guts out.
it is good to have the call center and the jobs however else they may suck..
I'm still with Shaw for my Internet and cable. Telus for my phone service.

It is not cheap. $200 for both of them each month and I own the PVR. What do they really do for that, maintain the system.

Anyone try to squeeze Shaw to lower their rates because of Telus????
BCRacer, I think you had a Computer Problem , can't blame Telus for it. Check after you press Send, this way you know it has been send, Software has many Bugs.
You still have telus phone? Dump shaw and get telus tv, internet, and phone bundled for way less than 200 and they will throw in another pvr.
