Pacific BioEnergy plant on Willow Cale road

Prince George, B.C.- Another fire at the Pacific BioEnergy Plant in Prince George.

This morning, around 5:30, fire  crews from 4 halls responded to a reported structure fire at the Pacific BioEnergy plant on Willow Cale Road.

The fire was contained in a chip hopper.

Three of the firehalls were sent back into town, but one engine crew remains on scene, and is likely to be there most of the day as   Pacific BioEnergy’s own crews   work on dousing the smouldering mass.

There were no injuries reported for this incident and there is no estimate of damage at this time.

This is the second fire to hit Pacific BioEnergy in three months. On December 17th of last year, there was an explosion caused by sparks originating in the fibre drying process. Workers were off the job until January 6th.

There were at least two other incidents at the plant.   In late March of 2008, there were two explosions that were pin pointed to the bag house, and in August of 2009 there was a fire in the hopper and piping system at the plant.

But it was an enviromentlly friendly fire.
Should charge a by-law fee. Excessive use of city services.
Seems to be a hot place to work.

I think they need to have an engineer go thru this one very carefully, and find out why so many fires.

I wonder if they are even insurable?
...environmentally friendly fire...hahahaha!...good one seamutt!
What is the over/under for the next fire or explosion? I guess someone is going to have to be seriously injured or killed before Worksafe BC steps in and makes them clean up their act.

(my money-------under 6 months)

Dry dust is always a hazard in industry, particularly when in confined spaces.
One spark can set off an explosion.
These guys appear to be having teething problems. Don't worry, their insurance co. will make sure they have appropriate safeguards, those people play hardball, they hate to see a claim.
metalman.
the company is probably avoiding the insurance company and paying the repairs themselves considering the damage in last couple have been relatively "minor".
