Prince George, B.C.- The Vice President of Medicine for Northern Health, Dr. David Butcher says the review of 100 CT scans interpreted by one radiologist who had provided some services in Dawson Creek, has determined 6 had significant discrepancies.
Having said that, Dr. Butcher says the discrepancies were not clinically significant and would not have resulted in any change in treatment by the attending physician.
The radiologist in question had provided services in Dawson Creek during June and July of 2010. His practice in Comox was under quality review, and the reviews warranted a closer look. He is no longer practicing in B.C.
The news about the discrepancies came as part of the initial review into the quality of medical scans in British Columbia. The review has concluded all physicians currently providing medical scan interpretation in the province are appropriately qualified and licensed. However, the report recommends a new peer review approach will help better support individual radiologists, improve quality and strengthen public confidence.
