Prince George, B.C.- Canfor’s Northwood pulpmill will undergo more than $11 million dollars in upgrades to have “real time” testing systems in place for its woodchips, pulping process and final pulp products.

The   federal and provincial governments are both contributing to the project, with Ottawa kicking in $2.5 million from the Transformative Technologies Pilot Scale Demonstration Program, and the Province putting in $2.1 million.  Canfor Pulp is investing $4.4 million in cash and in-kind contributions .

All those employees on layoff that everyone knows will never be recalled need to have their severance paid to them.

Our governments are nothing but a joke and whats worse is, our citizens stand there and keep allowing them to rape us all.
What does that comment have to do with the story?
Nobody at Northwood has been laid off nor anyone working for Canfor Pulp. You need to take your pills this morning.
Northwood just hired more guys?I'm what are I talking about drag
Although the pulp, and sawmill businesses are still (I think) separate entities, they are still Canfor companies, and some feel that Canfor should just release the former employees of Rustad Sawmill by paying out the severance many believe they have coming. Who knows why Canfor has thus far not declared Rustads permanently closed? It almost seems that they want the option of restarting this mill if market demand remains healthy and gets stronger.
That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
metalman.
Northwood and all of the CPLP mills are on a hiring frenzy right now. They even had a open cattle call for applications last month. They have hired at least 20 so far this year and the number is rumoured to be as high a 60 this year. These are to replace retiring workers and tradesman.
Geez I don't know Maverick, you been livin under a rock for long?

How about you pgmatt? Speaking of pills!

"I'm what are I talking about drag"
Wow pgguru, thats brutal!

Thanks metalman! Good to see there are still some that know a few things about local issues.
So my uncle Ted owns several sawmills and my Uncle Jim owns a few pulpmills.

Why should my Uncle Jim pay for bailing out one of uncle Ted's poorly run businesses just because they have the same last name and they are relatives?
BTW, I understand that the main reason why the pulp group kept the name "Canfor" is because they are recognized by that name in some of their key Asian market areas. I believe Asians can be very picky about continuity of service. "What's in a name?" eh?
course anyone who owns the majority of the business retains naming rights.
Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership was a Tax savings only move. Those tax incentives are gone now so rumor is they are going to change back.

I think the point of this is Canfor is Canfor. They are getting government money for upgrades when last quarter they made 165 million. Canfor owns 50.2% of the limited partnership who owns the rest?

Hey gus I love your redneck analogy. But you see your Uncle Ted and Uncle Jim are partners in the same business.

The option to start Rustads back up when it couldn't make them money when they shut it down doesn't make sense. Canfor for has only announce where they are spending half of the 130 million or so but don't hold you breath any of it is going to go to Rustads. Their most modern money making places are being made more modern as we speak. Rustad's is nothing but a spare part storage depot.

Polar is the next plateu
I too have heard that CPLP will be rolled back into Canfor, and they are indeed hiring lots of new people.
