Prince George, B.C.- You can expect a further three months of below normal temperatures and slightly above precipitation according to Jim Steele of Environment Canada.
Steele had predicted last November that this year’s winter would be colder than normal and also we would see precipitation above normal.
Steele says for the next three months there is a 70 to 80% chance that the temperatures will be on the average lower and precipitation will be 30 to 40% higher.
"We are still in the La Nina weather pattern" Steele says "Although there are signs that it is weakening which could mean that we would return to more normal temperatures."
Under La Nina conditions the ocean temperature is somewhere between 3 and 5 degrees cooler which results in colder temperatures across not only Canada but the USA and northern parts of Mexico.
The average temperatures for the past three months have been below normal according to Steele.
