Prince George, B.C.- M.P. Dick Harris says he is certain the Federal Liberals, NDP and the Bloc Quebecois are still aligned in a “coalition” and believes they had planned to press for a federal election before the budget was even presented.
“I think this is highly irresponsible, saying you are going to vote against it, before you even saw it” said Harris on the Meisner program this morning on CFISFM.
Harris says it is possible there could be a vote tomorrow, which is the vote on the budget. If that budget is defeated, it is considered a non confidence vote, and that will force an election.
Harris says there are global indicators which indicate the global economy is still very fragile and he is concerned about the timing. “Taking a pause for an election in the middle of the game, is going to put a little dent in the middle of the (economic) progress.”
A federal election is expected to cost about $300 million and could be held as early as May. It would be the fourth federal election in 7 years, going back to Paul Martin’s election in January of 2004, then the Harper minority victory in February 2006, voters were sent back to the polls in October of 2008 and it looks as though there will be another vote in just a couple of months.
Harris says if Harper goes to the Governor General on Saturday to dissolve government, then an election would likely be held on May 2nd.
