Union reps celebrate after  voting completed at Wolverine Mine

Tumbler Ridge, B.C.- The United Steelworkers, local 1-424, is now the union representing 320 hourly paid workers at the Western Coal Wolverine mine in Tumbler Ridge.

Workers voted more than 60% in favour of parting ways with their former union, the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) Local 68, and joining the United Steelworkers.
The final vote had 176 in favour of the move, 106 against.

The United Steelworkers had been contacted by workers who indicated they were not happy with the representation by CLAC. The Steelworkers started an organizing campaign in January.

The current contract for the hourly workers expires this July.

Good job people!
CLAC isn't a union, they are there for the company. Do some research on them to see what they are really about. More needs to be done to get rid of CLAC.
My hat is off to the organizer who ran this campain tuff job and always good to get rid of the clac
CLAC must be a horrible union to make someone go to the Steelworkers. Good luck
in your future of non-representation from
1-424, just ask the former Winton Global
workers how being in that union is working out.
Do you mean the ones that collective bargained themselves out of a job?

ok, go!
If your going to have a union, your better off to have a real union as opposed to a pretend union. Good choice by the Wolverine mine crew.
This collective bargening will eventually close down the wolverine mine> Same reason there are no sawmills out west.Out of them 5 workers in the picture up top, One is wearing work boots. Oh and there also in good pysical shape.
Maybe they could represent the people that had their mills closed down and get them some damn severance!
