Political Deals On Top Of Political Deals

If there was no collusion as to when the Conservative Government would be toppled, and equally when Harper would call an election, read on.
A few weeks ago, I was approached by a person ( who shall remain nameless) who suggested that I might make a good candidate for the Liberal Party federally in one of these ridings.

I said “ no”.

But it was what was said afterwards that was really telling. This person  pointed to the “fact” as he said it,  that an election “would be forced on Friday March 25th.”

Now the budget had not yet been presented, which suggests that there was a deal in the works to dump the Tories after they tabled the budget regardless of what it contained.

Never mind the fact that NDP leader Jack Layton said he was waiting to see what was being offered. The Liberals are chomping at the bit hoping to have an election and then knock off the Conservatives by forming an alliance with the three opposition parties, the Liberals, NDP and the Bloc.

It’s a re- hash of what they proposed to do some months ago.

Were the Conservatives expecting this was going to take place? Of course they were. Look no further than Stockwell Day's riding which was, for all intents and purpose,  rigged so that a former staff member would get the nod on some very short notice.

A few weeks ago I sat and listened to Jay Hill telling the audience that he has learned to never  trust the media.

Well let’s take stock of what is taking place and you quickly get the feeling that the media simply doesn’t trust the politicians of the day and the recent events suggest they have good reason.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Thats politics....

Just remember on election day to only vote for the smart one. The stupid one thinks the firearms registry will deter criminals from using guns....that makes things real easy. You cannot expect stupid people to be able to run our country can you??
Harper's pot should not call the kettle black. He himself (when he was in opposition against Paul Martin's Liberals) met with Jack Layton (and the Bloc) to have talks about how to join forces to topple the Liberals.

Mr. Layton just said so in an interview a few days ago.

Coalitions are not against the law. Some other western democracies do not allow minority governments. If no party gets an outright majority it is called a hung parliament, such as is the case in Britain.

The party with the most MPs must seek to form a coalition with some other party(s) to get a majority in order to govern.

That requires consensus, intelligent give and take and civil moderate ways.

That of course is something totally unfamiliar and alien to Ottawa.

It's great to have an election. After the dust settles the parliament will have quite a few new faces.

I don't see the conspiracy here. It was apparent to all months ago that the Harper government was in contempt of Parliament with the secrecy around the inflated costs of the F-35 and the Bev Oda saga among others... I think they just needed to dot the ey's and cross their t's with the formalities before making an official vote of none confidence. They all knew what the Parliamentary schedule was I would assume?

Never in Canadian history has a Canadian government been found in contempt of Parliament when it comes to informing Parliament on matters of such importance. Something I would say calls for an election naturally or we no longer live in a democracy....
Bev Oda saga?? I think she did a wonderful thing saving the taxpayers of Canada $7million...why should we give money to religious groups???

Contempt? Withholding information?? My goodness since when did one political party make an effort to tell any other what they were really doing?? The Liberals and NDP already had an idea of the costs associated with the jets....what they wanted was some election fodder!! Nothing more, nothing less.
Have to agree with Eagleone! Bang on!

Bev Oda? She testified three times before a committee and each time the story was different from the time before! When a Minister appears before a parliamentary committee he/she must tell the truth and can not refuse to answer.

I don't even believe her latest testimony! I do have an idea though who inserted the "No" into the document AFTER it had already been signed by the other participants.

So massaging the truth is o.k. as far as some people are concerned as long as one doesn't get caught?

We sure DO need an election.

The registry issue has been settled in the house. Try and look at more important issues during the election. Personally I am concerned about health care costs and what each party wants to do when the current health transfer deal expires in 2014. Many provinces are in real financial trouble and will probably need an increase in transfer payments to maintain the current level of services or make cuts in other areas such as education.
