Did unempoyement rates go down or is it just that people are no longer eligible for Employment Insurance benefits? and are no longer on the list? wonder if teh welfare list went up?
That's what I was thinking!
Same olde, same olde, comments. Why? because the unemployment rate by itself is totally meaningless. One needs to look at the numbers that go into arriving at the ratio of the unemployment rate. The key raw figure missing is the number of people working - the number of full time and the number of part time. The full time number went up across the country. The part time number went down across the country. The above numbers say nothing about the local situation.
According to Statistics Canada's website the reported unemployment rate is not connected to the number of people on EI.

It is done by a survey and not from looking at EI numbers.

You are considered to be unemployed as long as you want to work but can't find a job.
well I would like to know where all these surveys are being done. I have been in this town since 1972 and have yet to even see an servey going on let alone have a chance to participate in one.
How many times have you refused to participate in a phone survey?
