Cable Down to Most of Northern B.C.

Prince George, B.C. -  Thousands of  Shaw Cable  customers  throughout B.C. are off line this morning.  The cable television and internet systems are down in an area from 100 Mile House to Prince George.  The message on Shaw services says  the system is down from  Wi8lliams Lake  to  all of Northern B.C.

A support staff person at Shaw says the outage was caused by a fire at a gas station between Williams Lake and Quesnel.  However, RCMP E Division  Corporal  Dan Moskaluk says the fire was actually 25kms north of 100 Mile House, and RCMP were on hand  to help with traffic duties.  Traffic had been reduced to single lane alternating movement.  Moskaluk says drivers should check with www.drivebc.com for the latest on traffic movemebt through that area.

The fire is out,  and while Shaw lines were damaged in the  blaze, there is no telling when crews will be able to access the site for repairs.

As for when service will be restored,  Shaw is unable to say, as  anyone connected with head office in Calgary is not  available today, and support staff  (in Kelowna) can only say  they will work on the problem as soon as it is safe to do so.

Shaw support staff are unable  to say  if  service will be restored in time for the Canucks hockey game against Chicago which  will be on the CBC at 5:00 p.m.

Glad to have TELUS Optik TV, 565-3111
So much for redundancy!
Shaw has their redunant carrier line on the same poles as their primary that runs from the lower mainland. That is why any time there is a catastrophic event, everything north is cut off. Just like the fire in Williams Lake last year.

At least telus has true redundancy. They get signal via east and west of Prince George.

The entire concept of a "net", as in internet, is a mesh topology. When any link routes fail, rerouting along a different route overcomes the failure in very little time. it is called fault tolerance.
Oh yea, I am on Telus.

Na na na na.
Bell is acting up right now, can't call bell to bell, and Rogers is down to edge from 3G.... Wonder if it is because of this....
There was a nuclear bomb go off over North America, and its electro magnetic waves blew out all the communication satelites.

Its a good thing we live up in a place that nobody cares about us. They forgot to bomb us.
Yep, your one day late on your Shaw Cable bill, and they are all over you like white on rice. But do they send us a rebate when the service goes down. NO they don't, they are all too high and mighty. Shaw, Telus, their all the same.

Hey, WTF is with FortisBC, They are phoning me to make a payment and it is not even due for another two weeks.
