Prince George, B.C. - Thousands of Shaw Cable customers throughout B.C. are off line this morning. The cable television and internet systems are down in an area from 100 Mile House to Prince George. The message on Shaw services says the system is down from Wi8lliams Lake to all of Northern B.C.
A support staff person at Shaw says the outage was caused by a fire at a gas station between Williams Lake and Quesnel. However, RCMP E Division Corporal Dan Moskaluk says the fire was actually 25kms north of 100 Mile House, and RCMP were on hand to help with traffic duties. Traffic had been reduced to single lane alternating movement. Moskaluk says drivers should check with www.drivebc.com for the latest on traffic movemebt through that area.
The fire is out, and while Shaw lines were damaged in the blaze, there is no telling when crews will be able to access the site for repairs.
As for when service will be restored, Shaw is unable to say, as anyone connected with head office in Calgary is not available today, and support staff (in Kelowna) can only say they will work on the problem as soon as it is safe to do so.
Shaw support staff are unable to say if service will be restored in time for the Canucks hockey game against Chicago which will be on the CBC at 5:00 p.m.
