Prince George, B.C.- The  9-1-1 service impacted by a fire in  Lac La Hache today, was fully restored just before 7 this evening.

The 100 Mile House RCMP assisted area fire crews early Sunday morning after a fire broke out at Clancy's,  a Hwy 97 gas station restaurant at the 122 mile point just south of Lac La Hache.  The fire at Clancy’s, caused damage to a main telecommunications fibre optic line owned by Telus which carried service to Telus and Shaw clients for internet and digital telecommunications lines.  The 100 Mile House RCMP maintained traffic control throughout the day along Hwy 97.

The 911 Emergency Telecomms Center for Northern BC, operated by the North District RCMP in Prince George continued to effectively manage a digital telecommunications systems interruption the old school way, since 5:30 a.m Sunday April 17th.

“For the North’s 911 Center, it did not cut the ability to receive the public’s calls via 911, but did  limit our normal access to our usual police data bases and meant that we reverted to taking calls manually, logging them and then dispatching them out via radio dispatch.  Of obvious concern was the interruption in phone services which affected 100 Mile House and it’s rural area, limiting their ability to contact emergency services by cell phone only.  The 100 mile House RCMP ensured that the detachment has been physically manned throughout the day, in case someone attended the detachment to report an incident in person. The remainder of Northern BC were able to call 911 via land line, throughout the day.” stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

The Southeast District 911 Emergency Telecomms Center located in Kelowna assisted the Prince George 911 Center by conducting the required operational queries that arose throughout the day.  RCMP officers patrol units equipped with Mobile Data Terminals were able to access police data bases on the road as per normal during the interruption.

As of around 4:00 pm, fire crews deemed the area safe for Telus repair technicians to commence the splicing and repairs on the telecomms line at the fire scene.  They completed their repairs  just before 7:00 p.m.
