New Hazelton, B.C. – A driver is recovering at Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton after surviving a head-on crash with a train this morning.

New Hazelton RCMP and emergency crews were called out at about 1:00 a.m. for a report of an SUV hit by a train beneath the Highway 16 CN overpass. Police say the 2008 Chevy Trail Blazer was heading west on the railroad tracks when it was hit head-on by the eastbound train.

The lone occupant, a male driver, was trapped but conscious when emergency workers got to the scene. The New Hazelton Fire and Rescue service spent the next two hours trying to free the driver. Once the wreckage was removed, rescuers determined that the victim had only suffered minor injuries.

RCMP are investigating the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Brilliant!
Wow, not too many people gets away with that.
It's not his fault! The train should have spotted him and used the highway instead!
