Prince George, B.C. - It was expected,  the price of gas tends to jump  on the eve of a long weekend.

Yesterday, everyone headed to work with the price at 129.9 cents per litre.  By the time   they headed home for the night, the price had  jumped  5 cents.

According to the  Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Gas Gouge Meter, the new price is 13.9 cents too high.

"With today's crude oil price of $111.93 USD per barrel and the US dollar at 95¢ CAD, the price of regular unleaded gasoline in Prince George, British Columbia should be $1.21 per litre at normal profit margins.

At a price of $1.349 per litre, you are paying 13.9¢ per litre in pure excess profit. Across Canada, an extra margin of 13.9¢ per litre generates an additional profit of $13.9 million dollars per day."

According to the website, www.GasBuddy.com , the cheapest gas price in the Province is at the Costco in Sumas, where  a litre of regular will cost you 119.9 cents.  The highest prices are  in Ft. Nelson, ( 142.9 cents per liter)  and in Ft. St. John, where last night a litre of regular would cost you  138.9 cents.

Throughout  Chilliwack and Abbotsford, gas  was 119.9 cents per litre.

lets burn a few gas stations and blow up a few pipelines and refineries, (Quess Not) We will be Canadians and pay through our noses, Like the sheep we are. REMEMBER when Canadians had BALLS?
Of course, the long weekend is near. They have no idea if anyone is actually going anywhere but gouge drivers anyway. Stay away from Petro Can, they are the first to raise prices then all the other rip off artists follow suit. Myself I'll never fuel again at a Petro Can anywhere.
Petro Can trucks their gas in from Alberta as well so they are really raking in the money considering the price differences between Alberta and BC.
I haven't bought from them in a long time, not because of the prices but because of fuel economy...I can go further on a liter of anyone elses fuel... so I wonder about the octane or what other additives tehy use.

and Donald we used to have a government that would stand up on their feet and protect us a little at one time, now they shiver in their boots, and bow down everytime the yanks speak.
thank you govt!what a strange place we are in now, people just herd along like lost sheep
If you don't like the price, don't buy the product. Buy a smaller car, carpool, ride a bike, take transit... No one is forcing everyone to drive an 8 cylinder SUV or pickup truck. There are very few people that can legitimately claim to need a large truck and they can usually write the expenses off.
The problem here as in many other industries now is the amount of collusion and for collusion to continue at such an obvious level requires at minimum, government acquiescence if not endorsement.

Did you know that we have a Competition Bureau in Canada? Did you know that the open price fixing activities of this industry is described as the operation of a cartel on the Canadian Competition Bureau site? Yet I've never heard of our Bureau bringing any action against this industry. EVER.

We have noone to blame but ourselves though. We have allowed our governments to legalize activities like private corporations dictating the price we pay for necessities not based on competitive and supply pressures, but based on their profit planning and collusive practices within industry; by allowing private corporations (banks) to write currency into existence with the flick of a pen and devalue our currency and keep the masses enslaved by a debt based monetary system that is DESIGNED to enrich a few at the expense of the rest of us; to legitimize the police actions (the killing of innocent people to appropriate their resources) in other parts of the world to perpetuate and expand this system. If that sounds crazy to you, then the infotainment tool has been very effective on you.

Ask yourself how you benefit from the plutocracy we're living in? Ask yourself why the governments we elect do nothing to change these things; they won't even talk about these things. We can change things. It is in our power. Have you ever heard the story about the boiling frog? How warm do you think our swimming pool is now? Don't fade into a stupor people. Rise up and be heard. It will take nothing short of a revolution, but I think it's time.

That's $1.41.645 per liter in US dollars! or $5.52 per US gallon!

A VW TDI diesel in a Golf or Jetta does a very good job at sipping fuel, while being way less complicated than a Toyota or Honda Hybrid.

Here comes the electric car!

BTW, how come we as Canadians don't benefit a bit from the fact that we are a country with huge bitumen deposits - the Alberta tarsands? Our oil is shipped across the border and it sells really cheap down there!?

And now Enbridge wants to export half a million barrels per day of the stuff through Kitimat to China? Pretty soon they are going to tell us that we can't get any (unless we pay double) because their biggest customer (China) comes first!

The Electric Car is beginning to look better and better!

Our politicians are too busy assassinating each other with the *reckless* coalition, coalition, coalition, coalition, coalition thing to have time for anything else!

They want to sell our product to the world markets at world market prices and gouge Canadians in the process and guys like Harper are all for it. I'm surprised its not an election issue. We Canadians are being fleeced and our government is facilitating it and turning a blind eye... candidates have all got their gag orders from party central it appears.
Stay home and walk!
What about our municipal politicians?? Why are they so quiet on this issue??? They are willing to beat the drum about transfer payments[speeding ticket revenue]...why are they so silent about this huge tax grab siphoning money out of our community?? Don't they realize how much tax the federal and provincial govts are raking in from these rates???

If they can sell gas for $119.9 in Abbotsford they can sell it for that here...for crying out loud we even have a refinery within city limits!!

Skakun where are you on this issue!!!!
I agree with Noseverence, we want everything and don't pay for it.

Thru the eighties and nineties, we enjoyed the cheapest fuel in the world. Did we say thank you to the government for making that possible.

You want the luxury of driving. Than you got to earn the right to have and maintain a permit (liscence), and be able to pay for the vehicle and fuel. simple.

If you want to live on Saint Mortgage Heights. Than you have to work hard or have worked hard, to earn and maintain that address.

We live in a country of opportunity. You want it, you can attain it, if your focussed and willing to make some sacrifices with time investment. Take a good look around, we have it pretty good in Canada.

If you can't afford the high cost of the fuel. Park the vehicle and hope on a bike, and don't forget your helmet.

Looks like they are trying now to have a new meltdown like 2008. A few more weeks of this and people is gonna be so broke LOL LOL Remember 2008? Remember they cranked it up to 147? That's the highest it got here then miracously the economy tanked. Hope they crank it up some more soon. Won't be long for everyone driving around in these V8 things. What a joke. This is going to stop this HST economy really soon. Crank er up some more can't wait to see that happen.
I think the cost of Oil is going to hit $125 a barrell. I think we will see $1.50 a litre.

I also think, once the oil price settles into the mid $80's, our gas price will likely fall to about $1.09 again.

It is too bad that gas and diesel is a perishable commodity.

oh the gas companies said back awhile ago that the price of gas was going to but upwards of $1.50 a liter this summer, I believe a lot higher once we get the wonderful (criminal)Campbell carbon tax added on...
They pay $2.50 per litre in some countries....don't be surprised if our prices match those soon.

Pat Bell / Christy Clarke...are you reading this?? How much additional fuel tax revenue are you collecting?? Are you going to allocate some of it to pay for that stadium roof in Vancouver?
I agree with eagleone on this being a surprisingly absent issue from our federal election.

First off there is no country in the world who suffers more than Canada does from high energy prices. They are actually off the chart higher than they should be.

Secondly we are not a country who doesn't have enough energy of our own.

For some reason we subsidize our energy industries..yup hard done by oil and gas companies recieve all sorts of subsidies to push our oil and gas to every market in the world.

If we are left to the system we have then our economy is going to be completely transformed from a diverse range of industries to only being a country that rapes its land of nothing but energy for export. We are allowing that and paying to have it done while all our other industries fail and layoff their workers.

When I see Jim Flarety stand up from the crowd and preach that speculation and market manipulation is not occurring...I ask myself who is paying this muppet?

Is this a case where our federal governments are so blinded by the enormous amounts of money involved with energy that they forgot that the rest of our economy and the lions share of workers are being devastated by this wide open free for all.

Did they forget that from all the money involved in energy we get a pittance from it?

In the last couple of days it has been "discovered" that we have an alarming rate of inflation. I have two things to say about that; DUH! and you aint seen nuthin yet!
So how is that BS carbon tax, or is it carbon dioxide tax, working out based on a BS unprovable theory. Don't forget it goes up in July.

Electric car, just wait until road tax is added. How long will that charge last at 30 below? How much for new batteries? Ever notice the difference in price between and hybrid or electric car campared to a regular internal combustion car. That difference buys a lot of gas.

Hey Cristi just what are ya doing with that carbon tax?
Sure why not. The dollar is at an all time high and crude prices remain steady. Time to rip of Canadians again.
Costco is consistantly one of the cheapest in BC and Alberta, they only mark up prices by a set percent, and do not care what everyone else does. This forces other stations to match (or come close) if they want any business. I sent Costco an email a few weeks back asking if they are considering a gas station in PG, and they actually took the time to write a real response (not canned at all). PG isn't on their radar yet, but if they recieved enough requests, I am sure that could change, as they already sell propane (for cheaper than anyone else). Instead of putting an effort into a boycott, which only a small % take part in, and put that same effort into a campaign to bring in a reputable company that does not gouge,it might be a longer term solution. just a thought.
Closer to quitting my delivery job.
"Electric car, just wait until road tax is added. How long will that charge last at 30 below"

Given the cold weather testing that new vehicles go through and the fact that people have been driving hybrid cars in Canada and Northern Europe for years, I'm guessing that they will be just fine in cold weather environments.

The price premium was a concern when hybrids first came out, but they are dropping in price. There are also more options coming onto the market every year and most every manufacturer has electric or hybrids either for sale or in development. That suggests to me that they aren't going away and that the technology is bound to improve.
shaken&stirred boycotts do not work in Canada, the only peopel who hurt are teh sevice station owners who only hold a franchise nothing more....so the gas companies get paid regardless. but wouldn't it be nice if they did work here?

Good idea. Will send Costco an email myself.
Ok shaken&stirred you are talking about what amounts to a very small portion of the overall price structure called retail markup. It helps when Costco bucks the trend but this by no means is the real issue.
The real issue is totally unrestricted and uncontrolled world wide collusion and manipulation of oil prices. Whether it be a scuffle in Libya or a percieved shortage which might happen IF a certain set of world events might influence who can or cannot afford to bear the insatiable greed of oil companies....OUR government doesn't care or do anything about.
Our BC government kicks us in the head by adding a carbon tax...and then add some more and yet we puke out more emmissions from subsidized natural gas companies who are processing and exporting it.
Our governments are retards when it comes to energy policies and we are paying dearly for it.
NMG I was referring to the electric on road taxes not hybrid. Ask a Hybrid driver what they got for mileage during the winter? I think you will be surprised.

So with the jacking up of the electrical rate and once road taxes are applied any advantage is a long way off.

Battery efficency drops off more and more as it gets colder. Yes electic works in the cold but your range drops drastically and don't forget the heater and wipers.

Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Governments all benefit from the price of gas through taxes, so the higher the price the more money they make. This means that they are not very likely to try and roll prices back. Actually this is a conflict of interest, when the Government benefits from higher prices, because they become part of the problem, rather than a solution.

We are constantly getting screwed by the Oil Companies and rarely if ever do anything about it. There is an email going around asking people to not buy any gas from Petro Can, or Esso. The theory is, if we all quit buying from these companies they will lower their prices to stay in business. This email is expected to hit millions of people over the next few days. Now in order for this strategy to be effective, people have to actually take some action. How many will??

There is an old saying.

It is not enough to want to change.
It is not enough to need to change.
One must experience change.

What this means is that if you want to effect change, you actually have to do something besides sit on your ass and complain.

So here you have a clear strategy, where in fact you can do something to force these companies to back, off. What are you going to do about it.

Another clear strategy is not to fill your gas tank. Fill it to the half way mark. When you fill your tank you are in effect storing gasoline for the oil companies for free. If enough of us reduced our tanks to half, it would back the gas up to the well head and cause them all sorts of problems. One of their solutions to a huge glut of oil in their system would be to reduce prices to get rid of the excess.

So there you have it, two things that you can do with little or no effort that would have a huge impact on prices.

Lets see what happens.

"Thru the eighties and nineties, we enjoyed the cheapest fuel in the world."

Not so, of course! We had cheaper fuel prices than most European countries (where added taxes raise money for proper freeways and such) but not cheaper than the whole "world."

Look up Mexico, Venezuela, Egypt and many other countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuweit and other oil rich countries. They had always cheaper fuel and most of them are still cheaper.

Palpou How many will??

There is an old saying.

It is not enough to want to change.
It is not enough to need to change.
One must experience change.

You're right. I find it hard to believe most people don't even look before they buy. I've seen people filling their vehicles at a Petro Can paying 5 cents more per liter than the station across the street and not a soul there. Strange.
That's because they have a petrocan visa card which saves them 2 cent per litre and their petro points will get them a card, which saves them 5 cents per litre for up to 200 litres before it needs to be recharged.

Go Petrocan!
The price of propane went up about ten cents, too. I didn't know we get our propane from Libya!
