CN Centre in yesterday's sunshine will be site of today's community celebration

If the Canadian Men's Olympic Hockey team would have made it to the gold medal game, some city residents may have already been at the CN Centre this morning, to watch the team fight for a first place finish on big screen t.v.'s.

The disappointing loss earlier this week forced a change of plans in the 'Community Torch Celebration' set for this final day of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Instead, the doors at CN Centre will open at 7:30 this morning for a community pancake breakfast and a day full of events meant to showcase our local athletes, volunteers, multicultural heritage, and arts and cultural organizations.  (click here, for earlier story)

The local event, put on by the Prince George B.C. Spirit Committee, will feature a live broadcast of the closing ceremonies from Turin, Italy, where Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan will take centre stage to receive the Torch as the countdown begins in earnest to the 2010 Vancouver-Whistler Olympics.  The Torch passing is expected to occur sometime around 2pm.

There's a public skate from 2:30pm to 3:30pm and then the Prince George Blizzard Speedskating Club will put on a learn-to-skate session for kids.
