Opinion250 News has learned, CN Rail's Senior Vice President - Western Canada Region, Peter Marshall, is coming to Prince George.

Peter Marshall will be joined by  Jim Feeney of CN's Public and Government Affairs  to make a presentation to City Council on March 6th.

The presentation is a direct response to City Council's request for a meeting to discuss safety issues.

In his response to Council, in which he expressed a desire to address Council,  Mr. Marshall said CN is well aware of the the increase in main track derailments in B.C. in the last half of last year  "I have instituted a regional safety program, designed to solve this problem.  Our analysis shows that there is no single root cause for the incidents we are experiencing,  They are a combination of everything from equipment or track failure, employee error or weather conditions (i.e. the rain induced rockslides of late December)."

Marshall says  the company has taken significant action to address the sitatuion by "fully analyzing every incident ,appplying lessons learned."  He wrote that further measures are being implemented.

Marshall indicated in his letter that while there has been a great deal of focus on the safety concerns "there are other, more positive stories taking place across CN and in Northern B.C."

Those other more positive stories do not involve announcing a container stuffing  facility in Prince George, at least not at this time.  Jim Feeney, of CN's Public and Government Affairs tells Opinion250 News the March 6th presentation to Council is the sole reason for coming to Priince George that "There is no anouncement, and nothing we can discuss publicly about an intermodal terminal, we were asked to come up and discuss safety  concerns."
