March has come in like a lamb,  right on the heels of a storm that still has City crews busy.

In spite of what you may think, according to Jim Steele of Environment Canada, February is our region, was pretty much normal.

According to Steele, the month started off on the mild side with afternoon readings near or just below the freezing mark for the first two weeks. Conditions fell back to near normal or just below normal for the last two weeks of the month with the coldest period occurring during the last week.

Steele reports that in the end, the mean maximum was slightly above normal with the mean minimum running close to a degree below normal.

This provided a monthly mean temperature slightly below the long term average.

On the precipitation side, it was a pretty dry month until that major storm arrived on the 26th lasting through the 27th and dumping close to 20cm of snow over the area.

The month ended up with below normal rainfall and snowfall totaling just over 70% of normal.

According to Jim, February 2006 will go down in the weather history books as pretty close to normal for temperatures, but on the dry side when it comes to precipitation.
