The City of Prince George's application  for a Probationary Community Forest Agreement is under review by the Ministry of Forests and Range, and while that process is underway, the City is preparing the next step.

A Forest Resources Management Plan has been developed, and it is open for public review until April 18th.  The  plan outlines guiding principles, unique management objectives and a proposed allowable annual cut (AAC) for the Community Forest, for a term of five years. It is a legally binding document.

You can view a copy of the plan on the City's website,  or by  visiting the City's Development Services desk on the second floor at City Hall.  Your coments can be made in person, by phone, e-mail, fax or regular mail.

The City has been working towards  a Community Forest Agreement in order to harvest mountain pine beetle  trees on crown lands  within city limits.  The  trees pose both a public safety and fire hazard.

Once the Community Forest Agreement has been approved, the City will move on with the next phase, which is the Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP).  It will also  be open for public review and comment.  That process is likely to start in June.

Urban Forester, Kim Menounos says once all the applications have been approved (including cutting and  road permits), it is hoped  the City can begin logging operations in September or October of this year.

The City gets in the logging business? Must be a shortage of loggers i guess.
I wonder how much this arm of government will cost the taxpayers?
